I just downloaded this rom, but I as a quick [q] i was wondering if CWM has been ported to the device, or is LiveSuite the only way?

[UPDATE: the rom seems to have come with CWM]

[UPDATE 2: LiveSuite isn't running on windows 8 and giving the vague error of "EnumeratedError"]

There are a couple of CWMs that have been ported to Allwinner devices. I took one of them and patched the kernel so the buttons would work correctly (without the patch, the Back button did nothing).

Does LiveSuite not start or do you get part way into the process before it fails? Also, did you successfully install the LiveSuite USB driver per the instructions?

If you've never run L/S before, livesuite.exe will fail and you have to follow the instructions to coax Windows into installing the driver. I have the Win8 preview but never tried using it for this stuff. (I'm at work now, so I can't try until after 9:30p EST.)

I just opened up my polaroid pmid4311 and compared it to my Emerson em543. BTW the Volume keys and power key are not attached to anything and make it really annoying to put the case back together...

        they are a little different.

ram chips are the same 2x hynix h5tq2g83cfr

wifi is the same Realtek 8188ctv

polaroid: be carefull taking this one apart one ribbon cable is just soldered to the board, where in the emerson it has a connector. So I couldn't get a pic of the other side of the polaroid board.

        board says m434 v3.0.0 2012/06/27

        hynix h27ubg8t2btb

        emerson:
        board says m434 v4.1.0 2012/08/11

mem chip is (micron?) M 29e32g08cbaca

all in all they are pretty much the same

        flash maybe the main difference....

That makes it really annoying when the power button gets stuck in and you can't tell if it's on, off, or in outer space

I'm especially curious which touch-screen controller the Emerson uses. Did you happen to notice if there was a Goodix or FocalTech chip on it? Both tablets are configured to support either a GT811 or an FT5xx controller.

ok in the emersom em543 the sitronix st1530-n4d chip is the touch controller (google sitronix st1530). it is different in the polaroid. I have to take apart to look.

Thank you very much! That info should enable me to get rusty2788's touchscreen working again (and create a compatible CM10 ROM for the EM543).

can you make a universal Rom that will work for both?

also can we use cwm (the apk that jtintle released) to flash the Rom? Or do we have to use livesuite?

Certainly. The incompatibility is due to inexperience/bad judgement. The original ROM loaded 9 different touch screen drivers in the hope that one of them would match the hardware. I eliminated all of them except the one actually used on my 4311 (gt811). This meant the touchscreen wouldn't work on the EM543 which uses the Sitronix controller. When I redo this ROM, I'll have it try a few of the most likely. Meanwhile, there's an easy fix: all of the drivers are included, so all you have to do is edit /system/etc/init.d/02modules and add an "insmod" for the appropriate driver (I detailed the steps in the other 4311 thread).

For this ROM, you have to use LiveSuite so it can repartition the NAND. Future versions can be packaged as update.zip's provided you've already repartitioned - something that only LiveSuite can do currently.

As to CWM, you'll be better off using the version included in this ROM: it's newer and customized for the 4311/543. In particular, the Back button works and the names of the SD cards match those used by the main system.

maybe you should let it load all of the included touch screen drivers considering how many board revisions there may be. Just on these two boards we have 3.0.0 and 4.1.0.

who knows what may have prompted changes, maybe discounts, end of life, etc...

does it actually load all of them into memory even if they are not there or does it just load the specific one you have?
