Custom rom for use with appradio

For anyone who is running an mk809III with an appradio which custom rom are you running? I am currently using SMIC custom rom, works great but the resolution is a bit much for a small screen. Is there a rom out there for an appradio, or a way to change screen resolution in a custom rom?

    Hi,

    i´m in the same situation...
The issue is to change the DPI to 480 to get the icons to the expected size.

All things I tried failed so far and I´m looking for a solution as well.
If I change the DPI from 240 to anything else, the screen blinks and the system is unstable.

Someone outa there who can give us a tip how to change the DPI with success?

I would appreciate any answers on that.

    Thanks,

    Peter

yeah ive been looking for a while and cant seem to come up with anything. i can change the DPI to 280 but thats as high as it goes without having an issue, unfortunately i dont really have any experience with android kernels or anything so its not something i feel like i can do myself. I think im just going to ask one of these guys that makes the ROMs if they will be kind enough to make one at a smaller resolution, or one that can have the DPI set a bit higher. It seems like 360-440 dpi should be fine.

Good luck, ill post back here if i get something working since this thread pops up on most google searches of this subject.

I read someone with an AppRadio and stick who got the buttons bigger than original, without increasing the DPI...
He used the windows phone (fake) launcher with an IOS theme, He posted a screenshot and it seems to be okay so far.

Have a look at the ggogle+ community: https://plus.google.com/u/0/communit...7394668?cfem=1

...but this is not the look I prefer, so I didn´t use it.

Thanks ill check it out. It seems the issue with the DPI is the softkeys. As soon as it gets too high i can no longer see them, and i think thats whats causing the crashing. after some reading i think that might be adjustable by installing xposed framework. Im going to try that out tonight or tomorrow.

*Since my post is too hard to understand, I have edited my post so it can be understood correctly.*

I have a couple Android sticks that I have set up for my AppRadio 2 with AppRadio Unchained Reloaded. The sticks are the Timing Power RK3288, Timing Power RK3188, and the MK809III. I'm currently using the Timing Power RK3288 since it is such a powerhouse and its super fast, but I set up the other two Android sticks just the same.

*Note* Extreme changes to dpi or messing with other settings could mess up your Android stick and you might have to flash/restore the firmware to get it back to normal/working, I'm not responsible, so you have been warned!

In my trials with setting up the Android sticks my first goal was to get the resolution dialed in. I first used an app called "Resolution Changer" that's on the Play Store, to change the system dpi to 240, I really was shooting for 360dpi, but anything higher than 240 and the System UI kept force closing, also when restarting the Android sticks I noticed that the dpi settings would not stay at 240dpi. I then manually edited the build prop using Root Explorer (can also use build prop editor apps from the market) and changed all the dpi entries showing as 160dpi to 240dpi, saved the changes, restarted, and the dpi settings finally stuck. big problem I was now facing was that I was getting a black border on the right side of the right side of the screen and the bottom NavBar disappeared.

I needed to correct the black border/NavBar issues and remembered using Xposed Framework for another one of my Android devices where I needed to get certain applications to have different dpi settings to get them to change to tablet mode. I installed Xposed Framework and within Xposed Framework I installed the "App Settings" module which allows to set individual dpi settings for any installed application. I selected the "System UI.apk" and changed the dpi to 230 and saved that setting. I then went into the display settings on the Timing Power RK3288 and changed the HDMI output resolution to 720x480-60fps. After that I restarted the Android stick and finally booted to a perfect sized display with nice sized icons. The screen was displayed "full screen" with no black bar on the right anymore and NavBar was back.

Next issue I needed to fix was the NavBar since the protruding bottom button area on the AppRadio 2/3 makes it hard to press the back, home, and recent applications buttons or to swipe up to get the buttons to show when an application is open. To solve this issue I installed the "Ultimate Dynamic NavBar" application from the Play Store to be able to customize my NavBar. I moved the NavBar to the right side of the screen (my personal preference), making the NavBar auto-hide, and a couple of my timing and touch preferences to make it appear when swiping from the right edge of the screen in toward the middle and disappear once a button is chosen or nothing selected in a set amount time. So far has been working perfect for me but still tweaking it to get it just right.

If the information I have posted is not to your standards or can not be understood, please let me know first so I can edit my information. I do not want my information to be changed, edited, and then end up like a game of "Telephone" where the output from someone else is a totally different statement. Thank You.

                  Thanks @OniKyanAE86
I just ordered a second one just to be used in my car. My wife occupied the first stick for using it at our TV.... :-)
Your posting gives a good feeling to get the new stick working well in my car.

I hope you don't mind, I reformatted your response because it was so chock full of information that I wanted it to be as readable as possible.

I hear the RK3288s boot much faster, how long from turning your car on until you are able to make the bluetooth connection and able to use touch functionality? Any problems with the RK3288?

RK3288 boots up within ~30sec until you see the main screen.
Complete functionality is given after about 45 sec. I need to touch the screen once to get ARUnchained to negotiate the touch screen. So it´s a bit up to you how long it takes to get in touch with your apps.
All apps are working more than fluently and perfect.

With a RK3188 you need up to 1 minute to get the main screen and another minute to get the touch working.
If you can live with ~2minutes for complete booting, you would have a good working solution, without spending too much money.
