Help needed with Freezing M8 (square) box

    Hey everyone,
I am looking for some advice from those more knowledgeable than I!
I have got a square M8 box with XBMC 13.1 gotham on. It works great but regularly freezes up and becomes unresponsive for a short period of time.
I can best describe it as the type of freeze you get when streaming where your play back stops and then continues once it has caught up.
However as well as that nokey presses of the remote will work and every now and again it will take me back to the home screen.
I am not 100% sure if it is the OS crashing or XMBC, I never really spend that much time on the main screens but I know the remote ocasionly freezes on that to so it could be.

Any help or advice greatly appreciated.

Oh and I have cleaned all caches.

    Cheers.

    Hi.

I have exactly the same problem although it doesn't seem to be just XBMC where it freezes. If I'm in another app and then click the home button it can take a minute or two for the box to catch up. I even get lag sometimes with the mouse cursor using an air remote.

I think it may be time for a reinstall!

I tried many Roms and they all freeze often on my original m8, ott box 2gb. Only stane's Rom which I've had for MANY months has never frozen with hundreds of apps & even using my many heavy desktop widgets which often hang the best of android Roms too. His Rom is a sticky thread here. Megathron's Rom is also based on stane too, try both. In my opinion because of the freeze/hang issue on m8 boxes, stane's is the only realistic option on this box.

Wake up by remote sometimes doesn't work which is the case On all roms for this box. Try the app "Standby Touch" I linked in Megathron thread, works perfect & unlike widgets can be selected by original remote's arrow & OK buttons on desktop, wakes up perfect.

Also no problems with Ethernet or Wi-Fi or Bluetooth unlike other roms. Frankly couldn't be happier. If he released a second version tomorrow, I'd think twice before trying it even after nandroid baCkup as imo: if it ain't broken, I won't fix it. Many have quietly switched to his ROm too.

The freeze / hang issue gets worse as apps & widgets & used up system resources increase. But on this box it gets specially bad & makes it very frustrating & imo basically unusable. However I've not had a single freeze/hang issue with his Rom for many for months now despite overloading the box with apps & numerous widgets on many desktop screens of the nova pro launcher which is itself quite a heavy drain On system resources. This has been my happy experience but many clone boxes out there now so might not be the same for everyone & YMMV. GOOD LUCK.

I have a M8 on finless 1.8 and XBMC always crashes while I'm scrolling through titles. The box is not under a heavy load, I start XBMC as soon as the box boots. I've tried
        xbmc-13.2-Gotham-4K-video-2160P-output
        kodi 14.1
and all versions of Stanes XBMC
        SPMC

They all have the same issue freezing when I scroll through titles or files, their are probably 200ish in my library. But Bubble UPNP can scroll through titles fine, also can scroll in root browser with no problems is which makes me believe this is a problem with XBMC. XBMC is the only program that makes my box freeze. Has this happened to any one else? Any suggestions?

AFTER m8 boots first into android, I give it 5 to 10 minutes to settle down without touching or launching anything.

Otherwise that session will not be as smooth. This is true imo for most tv boxes, if not most android devices with many apps over the years I've had, but specially needed for m8. Bob himself advises this for his 1.7 & 1.8 & other ROMs too.

Still a no go for XBMC on finless 1.8 on the M8N box. Crazy every other app, firefox, dolphin, clash of clans, antutu all other memory hungry things run fine. Does anyone know where i can get the factory OTT 4k TV Box official firmware, or even a pull of XBMC from it, it was the only XBMC that had no problem on this device.

I have a few OTT M8 boxes; some had Model M8 on bottom label, others marked EM8.
All flashed & working fine with finless Bob's 2.1 ROM as listed in (Beeink AML devices - S82/M8 (round), MXIII, etc) I think he even includes a version of XBMC. You may want to give it try.

I don't have a M8N so don't know. I'd try latest Kodi nightlies but first would try this one:

you used the M8 round firmware and it worked ok on the M8 square? Just wanted to make sure I got this right. You think it'll work on M8N don't want to go bricking a box

                          I've followed PJ8's advice and have installed Stane1983's Firmware/ROM.

XBMC and the whole box is working like a charm now! Cheers for the advice
