    Ubox R89 IR Remote Problem

I just received a Ubox R89 2Gb/16Gb for christmas yesterday and the remote is not working! When I first turned it on yesterday it was working fine. Then I paired a bluetooth mini keyboard/touchpad that I use with it and shortly after, it stopped working well, then stopped working altogether. I tested the batteries with a multimeter and a battery checker and they are perfect. Brand new alkaline, right out of the box.

I thought maybe the batteries weren't making good contact, so I tried bending the contact springs out a bit. That didn't help, so I tried adding some aluminum foil and even scraped off some of the plastic coating on the ends and that didn't help either.

So I finally took the thing apart. I checked the metal leads going from the battery connections to the board and the voltage is 3 volts. So it is getting the correct voltage.

Next I tried testing the voltage at the IR LED and got an odd result. When a button is pressed the voltage may initially spike to about .45 volts with some buttons but almost immediately it will drop down to about .25 volts and if you continue to hold the button down it will stay at roughly this value (it fluctuates up and down a tad and I figure this is because the LED should be pulsing).

Is that a normal voltage reading to drive the LED or is something seriously FUBAR with my brand new remote?

    Cheers,
    -SB

To test ir remote simply look at your led sender with your phone camera (infrared sensible). Check in your input setting in android, maybe you need some tweeting

      Excellent idea!

I tested on my camera with a tronsmart R28 remote first to check that the camera can sense it and saw purple flashes when pressing a button. Then I tried with my R89 remote and nothing. No light at all.

It definitely is getting 3v power onto the board though. And it did work when I first opened the box. I have no idea why it stopped. Never dropped or damaged in any way.

Well at least now I know for sure. Thanks for the idea. I suppose I will contact UBOX (beelink) for a replacement.

You can not change volt number but you can change ampere number. 5v2a to 5v3a.

By analogy volt is the pipe size and ampere is pressure in the pipe, you can add pressure a bit but not change pipe size.

I don't understand how this applies. When I said it it's receiving 3v to the board I was just starting that the batteries are working properly and proper voltage is being fed to the board.

Obviously something is wrong with the logic on the board, because output voltage as tested at the LED is less than 0.3 volts, and it isn't enough voltage to activate the LED.
