I thought maybe the batteries weren't making good contact, so I tried bending the contact springs out a bit. That didn't help, so I tried adding some aluminum foil and even scraped off some of the plastic coating on the ends and that didn't help either.
So I finally took the thing apart. I checked the metal leads going from the battery connections to the board and the voltage is 3 volts. So it is getting the correct voltage.
Next I tried testing the voltage at the IR LED and got an odd result. When a button is pressed the voltage may initially spike to about .45 volts with some buttons but almost immediately it will drop down to about .25 volts and if you continue to hold the button down it will stay at roughly this value (it fluctuates up and down a tad and I figure this is because the LED should be pulsing).
Is that a normal voltage reading to drive the LED or is something seriously FUBAR with my brand new remote?
Cheers,
