Help me buy FireTV Stick replacement

I have fought with and gave up on my FireTV Stick. Its a great device if you keep it stock but I wanted fluid support for XBMC and its various add ons for media streaming. So I am interested in either the Minix X8-H or the Tronsmart AW80. Both are around the same price and offer I think the best support for what I want.

The AW80 is my first choice I think because of the hardware but I feel like it will need constant tweaking due to piss poor firmware support. Will a custom ROM be stable enough to load, add a launcher and then leave it? I don't want to constantly be messing with settings and things until the end of time.

The X8-H seems more polished out of the box but will it be decently future proof? I won't be doing a 4k setup for a couple years at least so that's of little value to me at this point but if I don't have to buy a new box to really support that, then that would be ideal.

Last option is the FireTV box but I am scared after my poor experience with the stick version. And I know its not future proof so its basically all but ruled out.

    Which should I buy?

    Hi Noggles10,

You can try maybe with WeTek Play, excellent support and great build quality. Official Google GMS certified device, and their company is sponsor of XBMC / Kodi project, and also OpenELEC, so soon there will be official OpenELEC build too.

There are many ROM's such as CyanogenMOD, AOKP, AOSP, OmniROM, ClockWork MOD Recovery and TWRP Recovery.

Also, ROM developer Christian Troy published Android Lollipop 5.0.2 and Android TV for WeTek Play.

Google Widevine is working, so any OTT app such as HBO GO, Voyo and others are working perfectly.

I looked in to that actually earlier this morning. My biggest concern was the processor and the RAM. I fear the long term ability of the device because it is already starting out less powerful than other options currently available.

Well so far at my side is running perfectly, and especially this part about great support and many things to awitch between is interesting.

In latest WeTek OS v1.1 and v1.1.1 there is option in settings to make CPU Overclock to 1.5 GHz where BogoMIPS value jump above 3000 on each core.

WeTek OS Android have neat features and app manager to kill easily apps in background etc.

1 GB RAM should be ok for 90% of users.

Read the forums and make an educated choice they are new ones that are working very well in the 3288 section and new ones being supported by developer's here at freaktab (seriously think tv boxes would be dead industry without some of those here) Tech1 also recommends the ADT 1 it's running lollipop side loaded. So requires some reading and installing. Beelink ricomagic ugoos cloudnet all models that provide steady updates too. Good luck with your choice😉
Many devices now mk902ii/Shield/Mk68 /Ugoos/neox5/minix5 (yes they still work lol) mk80 no it doesnt work lol.

hph tv box has been great for me, I have the 4g/32g version. I lost count how many models I've tried and the hph is so smooth using both kodi and smpc.

you can also get the pipo x7 , comes with windows 8 and office 2g/32g $109 shipped from gearbest using code PipoX7LM. I have it too and while not as fast as the hph it is well worth it
