    OGS vs IGZO, actually...another talk9x grainy screen topic

    Hi Lepi (or anybody else who owns both talk9x versions),

    what's different about the screen on the 2 cube talk9x's you own? Am I correct to guess "OGS version" (serial# earlier than 1426) has a muuuuch brighter screen? (better contrast?)

    ...meanwhile I realized much of the "after-1426" screen quality issues in talk9x tablets must have a reason in ?defect/?design, which is described here:

    this forum post seems already to be confirming that pre-1426 talk9x'es didn't have this issue at all.

    My talk9x has exact micro-mesh (grainy) effect described in the forum post above. I see no further screen defects and mesh is applied evenly, but it's quite annoying to look at what supposed to be a white screen (that's how most websites,books are presented etc) and actually seeing this mesh, also giving wrong color representation and feeling there is dust under the glass screen. furthermore it's difficult/impossible to watch movies on such screen (try to figure out what's happening during dark scenes)

    What I would like to know now is - please give me a shout if:
    - you have an after-1426 talk9x without the mesh/grain effect?
    - or should I assume all talk9x now have it?
    any comments appreciated!

    btw. by "after-1426 talk9x" I understand: serial number of back of the device is in form:
    32GB -> U65GT32GB????XXXXXXX
    16GB -> U65GT32GB????XXXXXXX

    where "????" will be the actual lower/higher number than 1426 (year 14, week 26), for example mine reads: U65GT32GB1447XXXXXXX

    btw. (if any forum admins read this): would be lovely to set this question up as forum vote thread , this way we would know how widespread the problem is with talk9x tablets.

      In my office we bought 5 cube talk 9x, all are built after week 26, one of them is black 32Gb the other 4 are white.
      All 5 displays are good, I don't see any grainy defect.
      Black or white tablets I compared on my office have the exact same screen.

        I have two U65GT 16GB and one U65GT 32GB. All are made after week 26.
        All screens are good but not quite as perfect as iPad retina.
        All have slight variation in brightness at borders. No obvious dead pixels.

          Hey Guys, thanks a lot for your feedback!

          note: this is not about some obvious defect like dead pixels, discoloration, light bleed or any other. Some people call this defect a grainy screen, some dust/dirt or micro-crystals etc. Reason appears to be as described in the other forum post - bad quality film/protector sitting between the actual display (which is almost 100% sure ipad-quality like) and digitizer glass.

          best way to compare is (probably) not against other talk9x, but any other tablet, ideally ipad: set the page to something mostly white (can be this forum in the browser), 100% brightness, no screen protectors. make sure you are comparing "apples to apples". What you should see (on ipad for example, or on any decent screen) is perfect white page...on my talk9x I see white-ish screen littered with tiny microscopic "dust-like" particles, spread is completely even so that you might not even realize at first look that there is something wrong.

          Here are some photos/videos I made, let me know if you are able to see the issue or if there are any issues with this comparison:

            digging more into freaktab I found this picture which much illustrates the issue much better than my work above:

            (talk9x with grainy screen on the left / some other chinese without issue on the right)
            (the dust/dirt is the issue, it's not the camera defficiency)

            quite a few people with grainy screen on this thread:
            http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.php?13885-Cube-9x-u65gt&p=238945&viewfull=1#post238945
            (start at post #400)

            ...but judging by the comments made here and in other threads indeed looks like this is an actual manufacturing issue affecting *some* talk9x owners and not "we designed it to be grainy" situation.
