Is it possible to flash Orion R28 Pro via SD card only (SDboot)?

    Hello,

I have stumbbled upon somethign called Rockchip Create Upgrade Disk Tool which allows you to create a bootable SD card to upgrade firmware. Has anyone tried using that tool?
My device currently doesn't display anything via HDMI and i am unable to flash it when i connect it to my PC due to IDB fail so i was wondering if this would be another alternative way to flashing this device.

Please let me know your thoughts.
    Thanks!

You talk about 'SD firmware tool' BUT you need the img in a special format (maybe the same format which is able to be flashed by the recovery if you rename the img??? and one of the last tronsmart img's doesn't work at flashing via recovery!!!...)

you can go one better and install the rom onto the flash card itself <--http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.php?20229-Running-Android-or-Linux-from-an-SD-card-on-a-RK3288-device-An-easy-way-to-dual-boot --->. Its fairy involved though because you need to know how to use linux. I get a feeling soon devs will release the normal update zips and sdcard images as well i could be wrong but would be nice for some people to try a new rom before commiting to it that dont know how to use linux. I presonally run wasser 2.0.3 from my sd card

yeah i think it needs to be. All my attempts failed. I think I will just break down and buy a new box. I saw the Tronsmart Dreca in your signature and I'm thinking of getting this one. I will still keep messing around with the R28 but for now i really need a box so i can watch stuff and not go insane lol

Unfortunately I do not have linux running on my PC and I dont have time to re-partition my drive to install a dual boot system. I've done it in the past when i had time but now im kinda short on it.

hmmm, you have to use a modded bootloader to boot from SD BUT "i am unable to flash it when i connect it to my PC due to IDB fail"...

At PC you should use https://www.virtualbox.org/
            => for windows host https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads
            and install a Linux
=> VIb) Linux at a Virtual Machine http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...l=1#post157646
(maybe 32bit to avoid the "64bit-problems")...

And with the SD-card-version you can use your rk3288 still a long time BUT "i am unable to flash it when i connect it to my PC due to IDB fail"...

i have to use a modded bootloader to boot from SD card? How come linux booted fine without any modifications to the boot loader? The bootloader on my box is still the original one

thats what I figured. Maybe I'll partition my drive at some point for dual boot when i have some free time.
For now i ordered Tronsmart Dreco so it should be here in 2 days.

In windows I used a couple of different Flashers, RkAdroid tools and RkBatch tools. I think those are the names. I'm not home so i can't check at this moment.

I told you at your second thread you should use a XP at SD/USB-dongle... this you can also do with a Linux, so no need to repartitioning your PC to get a native installation...

Yes, of cause, and there also exists linux live cd's (e.g. knoppix http://www.knopper.net/knoppix/index-en.html)...
or you install your Linux to a SD/USB-dongle (worst case disable HDD's at bios)...

Cool. Installing Mint now to USB with persistence partition option for saving data. Gonna give this a try

Edit: if that doesn't work, I'll try your sugestion of disabling HDDs. I think the Persistence option should allow me to make changes to auto mount and still retain them after a reboot. I'm using Universal USB installer to install Mint to USB btw
