Is the Q8 rk3288 one of the more popular set top boxes ?

I must say having used the one i purchased from Aliexpress i have had no issues with it what so ever. It performs flawlessly.

No, it's made by one of the companies that don't provide support or firmware updates.
It also has slow EMMC.

I see, but ive had no problems at all with mine and its certainly fast enough for all ive thrown at it so far. Its one massive improvement from my MK808 that was diabolical from the word go and if it wasn’t for the likes of the Finless 2.1 rom and others it would have been quickly thrown in the bin.

I would certainly recommend the Q8 to anyone and i don’t think theyd be dissapointed with day to day useage even with stock rom.

It was also a snap to root with towelroot method.


So all in all it gets credit from me

before u root q8 ,do u have some problems ,your tv is it full hd or 720p,xbmc?your stock rom version?

I'm full 1080p before root and after with no probs so far also full 5.1 audio via optical spdif Kodi/xbmc I'm stock rom only

Got mine yesterday (from Aliexpress.. less than a week from orderdate to deliverydate... really impressed (normally it takes 30+ days to order stuff from China)) (Shenzhen Visson Tech.. was super-fast. Thanx)

The box and everything looked really nice. It felt like a quality product, and it worked as i hoped it would (have NO experience with this kinda product, but have been using android phones "forever" so (I think) I know what to expect)

So far I love it.. It is responsive (very responsive imho) and the remote does its job (but I have ordered Neo A2 airmouse as it seems like a nice way to control these boxes from what I see on youtube)

Only thing I've failed at (so far) with this box is playing HBO-Nordic from the Android app.. Is it no way to make this work? assume is some kinda encryption/drm thingy?)

But all in all!! for approx $80 this seems like a really good buy and so far I'm really happy with this box.

Glad to hear you like it also Pstraums. Showbox is another good app that works well but you’ll have to get that from the showbox site as its not avail through the playstore, that is if you don’t already know about it.

Thanx (no I'm total newb when it comes to this so Showbox was an awesome tip for me, thnx) Now if I could find a way to make my HBO nordic, Netflix, NRK and TV2 Sumo apps work also, it would be almost TOO excellent ) Think I will start by testing rootcloak (i don't even know if Q8 IS rooted or not, but probably worth a shot even though I doubt it will work)

If you are that new then you’ll need Kodi (old name xbmc) Best give this a whirl its pre configured http://www.tvaddons.ag/tvmc-android/ it is Kodi all pre setup

I use air mouse, wireless mouse and keyboard, windows media remote + remote that came in package All work perfectly, but not all at once lol another tip is get yourself a powered usb hub and attach it via the otg/micro usb port that way all your wifi dongles and ir add-ons work together without having to swap and change etc. you'll need a micro usb otg cable if you’ve not already got one.

how u fix small icons on 1080p?i cant see so small all on 1080p

You have to change the density to get bigger symbols...
But sometimes this entry will set at boot.img so your changes will be lost after reboot, but you have to find it out...

Yes, that's the problem, if you switch between 720/1080 you have to change it every time you switch
