Received my first bad cs918 any tips?

Upon first boot the device started kicking back to the home screen and randomly rebooting, after restoring using the button on the bottom it started doing the same thing.Now it wont even restore its gets stuck around 25% on "Installing apps, please wait" and usually reboots.Also the animated boot screen shows some flickering.

Off course when it did work I didnt notice any information like what kernel its running or anything and am wondering if theres something I can try before I have to open it up to check what board is in it or return it.

Its running Android 4.2 if that helps.

Here's a picture of the guts, after taking it apart it now seems to be working.I even managed to root it but im going to let it run a few hours and see if its going to work or not.

*edit* open the pic in another window to view fullsize image.Kingoroot is reporting success but SuperSU fails when I update the binary and LuckyPatcher says theres no root.I'm still getting kicked out of apps sometimes.

I've installed the other firmware but its still doing the same thing so I will be returning the box.

Please get rid of that box.
It's going to give you endless problems.

It most likely has RK3188T CPU that is very slow and no heatsink!!!!!
This box will crash and overheat frequently.
It probably also has 'fake' 2GB RAM.
Also no custom ROM's available and no 1080p resolution.

I'm in talks with the seller on returning it or if the shipping is too much they will refund or send another.I have ordered the first batch of cs918 from china which came with a heatsink and work perfect as I run one and sold 4 and the only problem anyones had was a bad ethernet cable causing ethernet and wireless not to work, once he unplugged the cable everything was good.

I give people a 30 day warranty and help troubleshoot any problems, also install new add-ons for free they just have to bring the box back to me.

I know these only do 720p but im fine with that, I dont advertise the resolution and most people cant tell the difference between 720 and 1080 anyways.

I went with this us seller because demand is crazy and I need the boxes as fast as i can get them.Looks like I may have gotten burned, and i hope the other 5 i ordered from them under their other **** account dont burn me.

I threatened to "tell everyone on the popular forums not to buy your product" if i dont get treated right and leave negative feedback.It pisses me off because I want to sell people working boxes not these pieces of shit and I dont have deep pockets so it might take a while to recover from this.

Surprisingly these dont have fake 2gb ram I bought them as listed with 1gb.I also don't buy 'preloaded' boxes they have ******* outdated and broken add-ons.I remove any shitty apps like CloudTV and EHomeMediaCenter and install a fresh version of kodi and use config wizard.People arent just paying me for a potential paper weight I test them and theyre getting my support and knowledge.

Hope the other boxes are good.
Even a small heatsink can make a big improvement to stability.
Sometimes what you think you are getting is not always what you get.
There are so many TV box manufacturers, it's unbelievable and everyone tries to cut corners to sell more boxes at cheaper prices.

Maybe try SPMC v14, it might work better than normal Kodi.

The problem is nothing works at all, its not that i get into kodi and it overheats.It overheats sitting on the ******* home screen doing nothing! I cant even install apps from usb without problems! I realize this case design is used for a million different PCBs which is a shame.

I guarantee if I put an icepack under it and something in between to keep moisture off the box it will run fine!

Sorry I don't mean to hijack your thread, I too have these boxes coming from China...what do you use to delete the inbuilt app EHomeMediaCenter? I can only temporary disable it until next bootup?

Download KingoRoot and root the box then install lucky patcher and titanium backup.You need luckypatcher to crack titanium backup.These apps can be found by googling along with the instructions on how to crack titanium backup with lucky patcher.

Titanium backup is used to uninstall system apps that cannot be uninstalled with the built in app manager.
