                    Hi i'm newbie here

                    hello everyone

                    Comment

Noob question: any 1080p TV boxes without installing a ROM?

I wrote a little android app for my mom, to turn a monitor into a web-connected photo album. I bought a 22" 1920x1080 monitor, and put a fancy frame on it. Last step: I bought one of the android TV boxes from Amazon (first try: this MK808B one.)

So I plug in the box, and in settings it lets me set the Display Output to 1920x1080 (1080p), and the monitor agrees it's getting a 1080p signal. But the app is still drawing in a 1280x720 frame buffer. I can tell the image is scaled up, particularly by the way sharp lines appear. A "display tester" I downloaded agreed that the frame buffer was only 1280x720.

That led me here to Freaktab, where I learned about flashing firmware, ROMs, and funky Windows-only flash tools. I boldly gave it a shot, and bricked the box.

Next try: this MK809III. Exactly the same problem: it outputs 1080p from a 1280x720 frame buffer. I couldn't find an even plausible combination of ROM and kernel, and the flash tool was from a website with only Chinese text (which unfortunately I can't read), so I gave up before I made another brick, and returned it.

Third try: this Keedox player. You guessed it; same problem.

Every one of these thingies promised "full 1080p", and not one has done anything better than upscale a 720p frame buffer. I'm pretty certain, based on reading forums here for specific devices, that people have gotten it working. My standards are low: I don't need smooth XMBC playback; I'm displaying static images. The most I'm asking of the GPU is to fade one to another.

So, am I missing something? Is there a preferred device that works? Do vendors here sell TV boxes with real 1080p-capable ROMs already installed? Are there boxes that can be flashed from Linux, without weird proprietary binaries? (I'm handy with adb.)

Thanks much for directing this noob towards the right solution.

                            system recovery problem

does anybody know?...I'm trying to reset my mk809. I'm using a fly mouse with the keyboard on it. The power button won't select the item. Any keystrokes to emulate the power button?
