Flash completed without errors but tablet boots to white screen after logo

I did an SD card rkimage update from the recovery screen. It failed the first time, I didn't connect the USB port for power(i read afterwards it needs this...?), the second time I think it failed during flash. It booted first showing the cube logo then to a white screen with a black line about 1cm thick. Sometimes the white screen is peppered with colourful pixels, similar to a game crashing but usually boots to white.
I was still able to get it into recovery mode and I tried a 3rd time, this time I saw it was flashed successfully and I selected the option to reboot but it still loads a white screen with a black line across the top. I used the kasty cube 1.07 firmware, I successfully flashed my other cube tablet previously with this firmware using the same method, although it was 32gb with 1.05. This one is 16gb and had 1.03.

For some reason I am now only able to select to 1.07 rooted firmware to flash via SD card update. If I try stock 1.03 or rooted 1.03 it says "file not found or incorrect" I have renamed both to update.img just as I did with the 1.07 rooted firmware.
If i connect the tablet to the computer via USB it is detected by RC batch tool 1.5 but the square is pink with the numbers 1-2-4 under it. Clicking upgrade fails, clicking restore fails, but clicking switch succeeds and causes the tablet to go to a black screen and no longer detected by batch tool.
Any help appreciated.

If you're on a 1.7 ROM then you may ha a different boot loader that is incompatible with earlier roms. You could try my 1.1 romkit but not flash kernel.img or bootloader.

You said only 1.7 works I think. You will need to flash by USB to change things.

if update always fails with the tool you have flashed another bootloader or something . i had it once with recovery with cwm from other roms.
after that always download check fails. the only solution was shortcut the nand chip pins and erase the full nandchip

actually I was able to erase the NAND using RKAndroid tool

My problem now is in CWM I get up to the bit where install zip from SD card, I chose Decontaminate_V2.2_CWM.zip It does a complete install in around 30 seconds shows it is successful but when I press back button so I can reset I get these errors showing on screen:
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/command
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log

"Reboot system now" just reboots to this same CWM menu to update, not to the OS
hard reset does the same thing. I have done a "zip from SD card" update 3 times How do I fix above errors?

Have you tried flashing via USB?

for some reason I now can no longer get the RKAndroid tool to recognise the tablet.. Windows shows RK30 device connected and I can "eject RK30 device" however RKAndroidTool shows "No found RKAndroid rock USB"

When I was last able to connect with RKAndroid I did erase NAND followed by Flash ROM as per tutorial.

Unfortunately I can no longer get RKAndroidTool to recognize the cube. I even did a Windows 7 system restore to prior to driver installation, did the steps above that worked the first time. It detected new hardware, I chose the driver in the cube_h folder, it prompted me if I wanted to install the non digitally signed driver I clicked it. At this point is where RKAndroidTool detected the cube the first time. Unfortunately not this time, RKbatchtool wont detect it either. I am stuck with CWM screen as my only option to do anything and as I stated above I get the mounting errors.

Are you certain you are getting the cube into flash mode, the screen should be black.
