I think I am finally in the right place!

Unfortunately this new model is not even indicated on their website yet.

We bought two of these tablets at Big Lots on Black Friday for $78.88 apiece - one for me and one for my wife. The sale is over now, but at least one store locally did not sell out and has them for $89.99. The only reason I know this is because I had to swap one of ours out today for a new one - it got stuck in the boot cycle and I couldn't get it to reset. Anyway, the store where I got the replacement still had 10 more as of the morning. If someone here who knows what they are doing (Finless?) wants one to play with, you can send me $90 via PayPal - I'll cover the tax and shipping from Tucson, AZ. PM me if you are interested.

I am very impressed with the build quality of these tablets but equally disappointed with the state of lockdown (I simply can't install some apps, even from apk files) and the lack of Google Play. I had no idea they weren't the same NEXT8P12 that is already documented on their website until I found this thread and checked the box - sure enough, the processor is AML8726-M3 Cortex A9, not Cortex A8 as specified on their website.

I'll be eagerly monitoring this thread and forum to see what you guys can come up with. I am a computer engineer by education (unemployed at present) with lots of PC & IT experience - even some time with Unix - but fairly new to Android. My wife had an Android phone a couple of years ago that I upgraded from v1.6 to v2.0 - that is about the extent of it! But I'd be happy to help out if I can.

I just found this comparison of the RK2918 and AML8726-M3 processors and thought I would post it here for those who are interested.

If this article is correct, Yifang is overclocking the A9 in the new NEXT8P12 at 1GHz as opposed to 800MHz tested frequency. That likely precludes further overclocking - we might even want to back it off a bit for reliability, if that is possible. The A9 also has a lot smaller cache (128MB vs 512MB) and a slower GPU clock, as well, though it looks like it outperforms the A8 in graphical tasks.

Overall, it looks like a downgrade in performance - most likely to save cost.

I used adb toolkit 1.4.6 .. was able to modify the amlogic ainol driver to get the driver to install.
i found the buildprop file and was able to open it and copy it to a text file .. and also some other info,

...the netflix update for the nextbook 8p12se is a rockchip and not compatible with this new nextbook 8p12se which is an amlogic. Someone was saying they are working on putting out a new rom that is netflix compatible.

As an aside, I downloaded an update to the Netflix app (v2.1.0) via amazon appstore a couple of days ago that at least loads - the previous version would not even start up on my tablet. I can't check it out completely because I don't have an account right now. Maybe someone with a netflix account can check it out - if the updated Netflix works, there might not be a firmware update from Yifang for a while.

I used qtadb to get into the device, It seems pretty locked down ..
i made a post at pandawill forum because they have an elite version with the amlogic core.. one thing i found strange was the difference in the root versions of tabs.. this one is 2.6.. on the elite version its 3.0 something. same hardware though. the elite version has 16gb of nand. I was thinking of maybe asking for the firmware for that and maybe one of the gurus here could change the nand size to 4 gb for this tab. or maybe someone can find the firmware for the elite version and adust the partitions for this tab.

Any ROM suggestion?? which really works!! Because I was download finless bobs ROM and flash my Next8P12 but i am facing screen resolution issue, its seems like 6 inch screen after flash... but mine tablet has 8 inch screen with 1024x768 resolution supported...

How would I go about dumping the ROM? My NEXT8P12 is the newest version with the AMLogic CPU and 4GB of NVRAM. Does ît have to bè a new tablet or factory reset first?

I also tried 10P ROM, it make the resolution correct but stuck on start-up, because 10P ROM not cooked for 8PSE but i think you can edit your 1.2 ROM and set screen resolution for 8inch tablets don't you??
