Can someone direct me to the instructions for loading a custom recovery?

Like the title says, I simply cannot find a custom recovery for my Tronsmart R28 - at least one with instructions that make sense to me.

    I did find this: http://crewrktablets.arctablet.com/?p=4776

But in the included instructions it seems to skip a step:

    4) flash TWRP or CWM recovery
    a) choose TWRP in Landscape (i.e. 1920x1200) according to your tabs resolution (if not available use resolution below)
ai) choose TWRP in Portrait (i.e. 1200*1920) when your kernel logo is in Portrait: i.e. iFive Air
aii) choose CWM if your kernel supports no touch: i.e. Teclast P90HD
    b) click Run
    c) tab will reboot

Unless I am totally failing at reading, I don't see how you are supposed to choose which recovery, and from what tab in Android tool that this choice is made.

I REALLY don't want to brick this device, so some clear instructions would be awesome.

While I am a veteran with flashing android devices, its been a while. Normally a device specific forum will have a sticky which contains links to the standard tools and general instructions. Perhaps this forum only caters to developers who already know this stuff.

    Anyways, thanks!

When you run the android tool bundled with the crewtablets download, all of the options are preloaded in the list on the download image tab to choose from, so you just pick the one that suits your resolution (1920x1080 the logical choice for the R28) and flash it, which will take a couple of seconds after which the box will reboot.

You then just reboot into recovery and the custom recovery will be there.

As a veteran I'm guessing that you will know how to boot the box into bootloader mode in order the flash the image.

I ended up noticing that shortly after I posted the question.

Since you're here and listening, I just need a stable rom as this will be used by my in-laws and they are an hour away (support is awkward).

Other than the stock rom, what should I be using? I have Wasser 2.4 with update installed. Now I have no sound. I'm about to install 2.4a, but it is alpha.

      Suggestions?

      Thanks

I've been running 2.4a for a couple of days now and it works very well for me and have SPMC 14.1 beta 1 as my choice of XBMC/Kodi.

Well, SPMC (never heard of it before) won't be necessary. They will primarily be using this device for skype, email, browsing, netflix, and other misc stuff like that.

They probably won't use it at all based on how much effort this has been.

SPMC is a fork of XBMC/Kodi that has optimisation for the Rockchip SOC that most people are using with the RK3288 at the moment.

Not used Netflix with this ROM and know that there have been issues with it in the past when it comes to producing HD quality output.

Thanks for your feedback. Right now I've got 2.4a running, but I have no sound. I see in the thread that at least one other person is having this. I'll mess with it more after work, but I may be forced to go with another ROM.

Any opinion on which I should try next for my R28?
