Just Received My X7 - Wow..

Just received my X7 from PipoMall and I can say as a windows type that it is breath of fresh air. Now, I am not saying that OpenElec or Android is bad as I have used both, but the simple fact it that I like Windows. My home theater Kodi is an i5 based HTPC that never skips a beat and provides a great level of WAF. This will be a perfect, solid unit for my bedroom. So far, it runs everything I have thrown at it, the very heavy MQ5 skin I use is smooth, no bottlenecks in streaming video...

I can suggest that if you want a good Kodi box, don't change much. Use XBMC Launcher, update the OS to the current patch level and use the latest RC candidate of Kodi 14.1

There is a bit too much work for me to convert to OpenElec and maybe the X7 is not the best device for that purpose. But for a windows advocate, this is a great product.

You are seeing exactly what I am seeing...

I am afraid this might be the death of Android based TV boxes for just a media center especially because it is not out of line with prices!

For those that want Android APPs and there is no Windows alternative, then this statement does not apply.

Now that Intel is in this game, my personal opinion is we will see a "face change" in this TV box market now!

Bad news for FreakTab though as this place is all about fixing Android boxes so users can get more out of them. The good news, I think the implementation on these new Intel/Win boxes can be improved. We wont be working with "ROMS" though. Time to change with the flow or get out of the way!

I ordered mine last night from geekbuying. Figured I would snag it before the price goes up (which I hear it is). I already have a HTPC (Windows 7) in the living room running XBMC, Plex, MySQL server, file sharing, couchpotato, NZBget, Sonar/nzbdrone, utorrent etc... You cant do all that on a Android box. This Pipo X7 will likely go in the bedroom. If all fairs well, I might order a couple more down the road. Only thing is, I wish we could get Windows 7 running on it. I have a HP Stream 11 laptop with Windows 8.1, and I absolutly hate Windows 8.1.

I tried for several hours to get Win 7 to install.... Alas because it is not a UEFI but legacy BIOS setup it just wont install or even boot to the installer. Maybe someone better than I with Windows can figure out how to make a bootable USB drive that can install windows 7. I do not think it is impossible just beyond my Windows knowledge right now.

And yes... I too would prefer Windows 7!!!!!

Yeah, while I like Android (phones, tablet, MX III TV box, etc.), I just feel that if you have experience with Windows, it is a very logical choice. I help friends with HTPC stuff and I build a box that has all my MAME/PS2/Wii games and I have been waiting for something with this level of power and form factor.

The only thing I ran into was the "sleep" issue, but I thing I fixed that by setting the sleep time when plugged in to "never". It uses so little power, I'd rather it stay on until I figure out the sleep issue. Other than that, good, smooth video, I've hidden the windows desktop through XBMC launcher and painted that super bright RED LED with some dark gray translucent paint to tone it down....

Now, if you hate Windows, this is not for you as it really wasn't designed to other operating systems without a bunch of mods. My living room is very powerful with all the bells to match display rates, 7.2 sound, my relaxation toy. The X7 is perfect for the bedroom, kids, etc.
