Question about 720p and 1080i support

I was considering a Beelink R89 (or Ubox), but then I saw a review that says it won't play in 720p, only 1080p. I'm one of the few people left alive with an old 1080i 720p TV, which means this box would be stuck in SD if the review is true.

Is there a chipset I should be looking for that supports 720p or 1080i? I'm more interested in the snappiness of the box than the resolution, and I'd be happy with 720p if a box doesn't do 1080i. I will eventually replace the TV, but I don't want a useless box in the meantime.

    Thanks in advance.

Never mind. Based on some of the questions and problems in the forum, it looks like they all should support 720p. It was probably a bogus review or the guy had a bad unit. If you know I'm mistaken, and there are chipsets to avoid, let me know. Thanks.

I am still a noob, so this is not so much a recommendation, as it is a suggestion.
I purchased a Ugoos UT3 2GB/16GB version, it is my first ATV box. As such, I have nothing else to compare it to. So keep that in mind.
Like you, my demands for video are not great. But for me, the UT3 is performing well. I have not had much time with it yet, but so far I have no complaints and the box is meeting or exceeding my expectations. New boxes/cpus seem to enter the market every week. I worried as soon as I bought a box, a newer and better box would enter the market(and it will). But at some point you have to jump in.
I was worried at the possibility of having to wait weeks for a box coming from China. The thought of having to return a D.O.A. box to China concerned me. I see you live in TX. If you decide to purchase a Ugoos box, you may want to consider Droidfusion. They have local inventory in NY. If you have a warranty issue, returns are sent back to NY, not China. Price with base shipping is a very few more dollars($6 in my case) than it is at the overseas retailers. But the local inventory and local returns, made me glad to pay the difference. Ordered my box Friday night using the standard USPS shipping. I received the box the following Monday morning. I do not work for, or have any association with Droidfusion. I had a pleasant buying experience and just wanted to share that fact.
Good luck in whatever you choose.

Thanks very much for the info!

Yeah, the UT3 was really tempting for me. I almost bought it. But I finally pulled the trigger on the Beelink R89. I'll get it early next week (it's a local source).

I came -><- this close to getting the UT3, especially because it is so heavily discounted at Amazon and I'd save $19,865.54. I'm not kidding - here's a cut and paste from Amazon:

        List Price: $19,995.00
        Price: $129.46 + $5.49 shipping
        You Save: $19,865.54 (99%)

That's a pretty funny typo. They must have meant $199.95.

In the end, it was the $30 difference that made me go for the R89, even though I'm pretty sure the UT3 is a better box. I didn't want to settle for an older chipset, but I didn't want to jump in too deep right away, either.

We'll see how that works out. Report back on how the UT3 works out for you, please.

I don't know if it is better. If I could have found the R89 locally(US), I may have come to the same decision you did. However, and this is unusual for me, so far I have not had an iota of the dreaded "buyer's remorse". In the two or so weeks since buying the UT3, about 6 or seven(or more) new boxes have entered the market. Luckily for me, looks like we are going to need one for the living room soon(UT3 was purchased for the man cave). So I will also be interested in your R89 experience.

Regarding the $20,000 box and the 99% discount....Maybe I should try that tactic when I try to sell my 1980 POS automobile.
Who knows? It might just work.
