    OpenELEC 5.0.1 with Kodi 14.1 final for M8 boxes w/ 1gb ram - AP6181 wifi.

I first thought to post this in Codesnake's Openelec thread, but this box is not supported in that thread (or any other), plus this came true mainly with help from "Kerber or SurkovAlex" in xbmc.ru forum, so i decided to post a new thread.

So, i bought a M8 with 1GB of ram and AP6181 wifi chip from **** http://www.****.com/itm/141402134101 to realise later i made a stupid purchase. The pcb says H8&M8 V2_0 20140708, and it is incompatible with any 2GB ram firmware.
NO support from the manufacturers, and almost non existent help in this or any other forum.
At least the seller provided the original firmware for backup purposes http://www.mediafire.com/?76u0w2dv826c0d0.

Finally i thought what the hell, i will start experimenting and see what happens.

I 1st flashed Stane's AMLinux build for MXIII 1GB (same spec box) with my fingers crossed and it flashed and booted fine, but i had NO network at all. Wifi and even ethernet didn't work.

Went back to Android and then i thought if Amlinux for MXIII boots, why wouldn't OpenElec for MXIII?.
Tried to flash http://amlinux.ru/image/5.0.0/OpenEL....arm-5.0.0.zip but it refused to flash. Always the box booted back to android.
Finally i thought, what if i go through Amlinux first (which flashes and boots) http://www.stane1983.com/?wpdmdl=164 , and flash Openelec over it.

Guess what, it flashed and booted fine. The box worked in all aspects (hdmi, wifi, lan, sound etc) except the remote.
I tested it for a couple of days, all was nice and stable, and went 1 step further.
The goal was to fix the remote (roundish one), and set-up the box as a full PVR (dvb-t support).

So i went on, downloaded the source code from SurkovAlex's repo, and with the help from him i compiled a fresh build for the MXIII (or 1GB M8) with OpenElec 5.0 final, corrected remote and driver support for my DVB-T usb stick.

    Success!!!

After i setup things like TVHeadEnd or DVR i had a full blown linux PVR with OpenElec 5.0 final, Kodi 14, only 5watt energy consumption and a total cost (with DVB-T) of ~ $65-70...
Hdmi, wifi, lan, sound, remote, Kodi 14, dvb-t reception, all work fine.

I switched from TVHeadEnd to DVR, as TVHeadEnd tends to hang during long inactivity and loses communication with kodi, or in my case the driver.
DVR works just as fine or even better, and is much more stable with my setup over time.

TVHeadEnd addon you can install from OpenElec's repo inside Kodi.
DVR addon you can get here http://amlinux.ru/target/addons/4.3/...ddon-4.3.6.zip (install as zip in Kodi).

Get my build for M8-1gb from here:
    http://www28.zippyshare.com/v/TQnLXgBD/file.html

Remember, flash Stane's Amlinux MXIII rom first and then flash this on top (i guess it's just a recovery file issue but i didn't bother to check).

Update to OpenELEC 5.0.1 and Kodi 14.1. Working good.
    OpenELEC-Amlogic.M8.1gb-5.0.1.zip

          Try this: http://amlinux.ru/target/OpenELEC-Am....arm-5.0.1.zip

I do not own an MXQ box, but others reported it works good...

All i can suggest is this: http://amlinux.ru/image/devel/OpenEL...7-g8fc79be.zip

It's OpenELEC v5.0 with Kodi v14.0. It's not tested by me, as i do not have a 2gb box.

But: DO NOT flash unless you have a backup original rom for your box to restore in case of an error.

Just did it from codesnake's M8 4.97.3 (5.0 RC3) to your OpenELEC-Amlogic.M8.1gb-5.0.1.zip everything went fine but now I'm only getting about 708MB of free ram compared to 1400MB+ on codesnake's build. Other than that everything is working fine and an added bonus the Kodi configuration didn't get wiped so I don't have to reset everything back up.

That is because you did not read both threads carefully, and you missed important details.
Codesnake's build is for 2GB ram boxes. ONLY. Like yours.
This build is for 1GB ram boxes.ONLY. Like mine.

You are lucky the difference did not brick your box.

Other than that, 1 GB of ram is plenty enough for the intended use (pure XBMC box).
I haven't seen a situation where it fell short.

Yeah nice, but have you tested auto framerate switching in Kodi. 24p. Box gets black screen, crash and you can't turn it off anymore.

Best rom i have tested from amlinux.ru for M8 2gb is: http://amlinux.ru/image/devel/ from 29-jan-2015 16:49 The only thing with this rom is that the Kodi Gui has lag.

Other newer roms S89, MX3, and so on ---> 5.0.1 with Kodi 14,1 have black screen and crash with auto frame rate switching.

                          Keyboard settings

I installed OpenELEC on my ENY EM8 but then later realized the version was for the s82 not the s802 so I installed MX Linux BUT while I was in OpenELEC I changed the keyboard settings and now even though I am on top of MX Linux my keyboard still has the different settings I changed while in OpenELEC. Any idea on how to fix this??
