The Good news I guess is that you shouldn't have to open your Box up. But, it may still prove useful to actually do so. If only to find the Board Identifier, plus any stray Chips *cough* WiFi / Bluetooth *cough*. This is certainly true enough of the 1G/8G MXIII. As to the M8? I don't have one.
But, having had a go at that same Thread a while back... It slowly downed on me that it was applicable ONLY to the MX2 (Amlogic 8726), and NOT to the MXIII (Amlogic S802). So shorting the Pins would do next to nothing. In fact, I can pretty much confirm that it doesn't. Having actually been there, and having wasted a sh--load of time in trying to unbrick my MXIII at the time with that method.
So it would be best to forget about that!
Now I did manage to eventually recover my MXIII, and to do so you'll need to get a few things...
- Amlogic's USB BURNER TOOL: http://www.mediafire.com/download/jm...ogic_tools.rar
- Your OTG (Micro USB) Cable
- The correct Firmware for your Device. (Get it from your Dealer, or the OEM... Ex: Beelink in the case of the MXIII)
- A used Q-Tip, with the Cotton end twisted (or cut...) off
- A copy of Windows XP/Vista/7/8.x (Sadly there doesn't seem to be a Linux client)...
- Either a copy of WinRAR (Shareware), or use 7Zip (Free!), to unpack the Amlogic Tools (*.rar Files!)
- In the event that your Windows can't find the WorldCup Driver, needed to flash your Device. you can try installing them manually via Moborobo http://moborobo.com/ NOTE: here be careful when installing the Burning Tool. As it should ask you whether you want to install that WorldCup Driver or not. As its an otherwise unsigned Driver.
So after installing the USB Burning Tool, you should then be able to start it up. Choosing the Second Menu Option, should give you the option to change most, of the UI into English.
Now what you need to do is to connect the OTG (Micro USB), between the "Device", and your PC, then the Power Adapter, and then insert the Q-Tip end up the AV Port till it depresses the Reset Switch, then power up the "Device".
The whole "Trick" here is that you may have to continuously depress that Reset Switch for upwards of +90 Seconds before Windows goes "Ting", and actually loads the Drivers. If your impatient, don't be surprised when it fails ~3% of the way in. That also took a sh--load of time to sink in! BE PATIENT! Hold the Reset till windows goes Ting, and finds the Drivers!
Then point to the correct Firmware... (Whatever that might be?), then flash it.
IIRC correctly the only problem with this is that you'll have to find a *.img File as you can't use the USB *.zip files with that Program.
