This is a great thread but...

I have an MK80 and passthrough DTS and Dolby don't work. I've been forwarded to this thread and I read it all but honestly I am overwhelmed by the information in it.

I have never flashed an Android TV machine and so I would appreciate if one could guide me by answering the following 4 questions:
    1. Will the custom ROM fix my issue?
    2. What tools do I need and where can I download them including latest ROM for my machine?
    3. Video guide or step by step process on how to flash the ROM on an SD card to boot the machine from it and test it first to see if indeed it solves my issues?
    4. Video guide or step by step process on how to flash the ROM on the machines memory and make it final in case it does answer my needs?
this would be helpful to me but I am sure to many others now or in the future who would want to try it as well.
Much obliged in advanced to such a savior :-)

It does sometimes seem over welming ill try and help you out here

      first go to this http://dl.cubieboard.org/model/cc-a8...irmware-tools/
Select Phoenix card v3 and download the zip file to your pc.

Once it has downloaded unzip to your pc (assuming you have already installed your drivers and software for flashing from the supplier if mk80 go here and download and install drivers to pc in the software package for the updated software. https://copy.com/ipEuNLjESszuvjRk. on ricomagic web site.

Then download the software you wish to try.

Doves or finless and save and un zip to folder.

open the phoenix card program -http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.php?21568-Boot-from-SD (easy read on how it works but its basicly from program you select the image file you want to change to then next step is to select how you want to install with this program you have 2 options you can select product in the program menu and that will install the new software directly to the sd card and when select burn will creat sd card that will install the software that once you power off your device and install the sd card and re boot that will install this new software directly to the device erasing what ever you have installed now. just make sure you have a back up of original rom because you cant go back unless you do.

option 2 - I recommend this way if you never flashed a device or wish to try a new software to test if some items work. Everything the same as above only this time select startup not product. This will install the new software to the sd card (this only works with finless rom without modifing other things right now) once you select burn it will write to the sd card and you will be able to put sd card into the device and reboot and it will boot right into the new software from the sd card. best part if you dont like it just remove the sd card and your back to what you had already installed.
Many devices now mk902ii/Shield/Mk68 /Ugoos/neox5/minix5 (yes they still work lol) mk80 no it doesnt work lol.

Scooter2014 - thank u so much for such a detailed and quick answer. I will try this ASAP!
you just omitted to answer question 1. Reg. whether you know if those ROMs will fix the Passthrough issue.
Also can you point me to where I can find the latest version for each of those ROMs.
        Thanks again mate.

Guys - I just applied the startup method to SD card and put the SD card into the box.
it loaded and then shut down. when I removed the card and rebooted it loaded the custom ROM but now it only loads the custom ROM even if the startup SD card isn't inside the box. I thought that if I remove the SD card it goes back to rebooting my previous ROM...
How do I go back to my previous ROM and most importantly I hope I haven't lost all my previous settings, preferrences and all...

When you made the card I said only Finless Rom is able to flash and test rom with out change. The dOve rom need special changes listed in the first post. What box you have?? If it mk80 from Ricomagic the rom you downloaded from that site will have the stoCk rom just flash it back to stock.

I did say it 😆 you have to select start up even if you flash Finless.

Don't panic all not lost I said don't flash if you don't have back up but stock rom still easy to reinstall. Or try Finless same way and just select start up. You can try that on sd slot and see that it will let you plaplay with that rom. Your at least now able to flash look at you go.

                Ok but:
                1. While the Dovless does let me hear passthrough DTS and DD, there's an image stutter every 2 to 3 seconds which is very annoying. If I cancel the passthrough the sound comes out as stereo and then the picture doesn't stutter. Do you know whether the Finless fares better on this issue?
                2. Where do I download the latest Finless? what is the latest version?
                tnx.

Try changing your mouse or just use the stock remove to see if that one issue then check if wifi or network any issue.

that Bobs rom link for you.

I using bobs and have no issue with play back (small issue with blurr line at bottom on some i know both tronsmart and ricomagic working on. )

I have been on this very intensively for the past few days making many flashings and reflashings. I have tried the Finless and Dovless but none of them really fix the DTS and DD passthrough issue. I am not sure what improvements they offer if at all and to be honest the stock ROM is clean and works flawlessly. I haven't had any special issues with it apart of the Passthrough. So ultimately I went back to the original FW.
Thanks to Scooter123 and others who posted and tried to help but I believe that as long as RikoMagic don't post a new FW update nothing will change since all those custom ROMs are based on the stock one.
Whoever owns such a TV box or one with the AllWinner A80 chip should continue to pressure customer service of the company they bought it from to get them pushing AllWinner to issue a new SDK pack that will enable upgrade to Lolipop and solve Passthrough issues.
Until then if someone comes up with a better solution and one that works and solves the Passthrough issue I hope they post it here and share it with all of us.
                    thanks.

                      Hi all,

Im using a MK80 one too (stock rom on internal/ finless on SD).

Is there any way to enable the HDMI-CEC on this box with a custom ROM? or we need RKM to make it firstly? or its just not compatible?

I tried to ask @ RKM forum, but after i tried to register you need to answer an email and nothing happens since a week, so i guess its a useless forum.

Thanks for the ROM and for your time

I used no frills CPU control app from play store and at holds at 1800 but its in red for temperature and a CPU cooler app thats made for phones but honestly after testing its best to stay at 1600 from my experience.. Also WANTED TO GET IT OUT THERE FOR ANYONE WHO HATES THE HORIZONTAL NAVIGATION BAR AT THE BOTTOM BUT LIKES THE FUNCTIONS IT OFFERS I FOUND AN APP FOR THE EXPOSED FRAMEWORK THATS CALLED GRAVITY BOX AND IVE SHRUNKEN THE BAR DOWN TO 32% FROM 100% AND STILL HELD PICTURE OF ICONS AND FUNCTIONALITY.. P.S. ANYONE HAVING LINES IN NETFLIX OR OTHERS ZOOM OUT EITHER FROM TV SETTINGS & OR ROM SETTINGS..

i created 2 flashable zips, one for owners of the rikomagic mk80 (makes your remote work incl. power on) and one for removing the "click" sound (works on every rom).

These zips flash to internal memory. You can not flash them to a startup sdcard.
please dont use the remote fix on other roms as it contains the build.prop and script.bin of this rom, with some modified lines to make the mouse pointer and power on work.

i suggest to use zip installer for easy installing. no need to connect an usb mouse to navigate twrp.
you can buy it for cheap on the playstore or get it for free from the official thread on xda: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1920057

Note: if your device freezes on next boot after flashing, just power off and on again.

added: it´s always a good idea to make a full backup before messing with the system.
First thank you for those flashes, my remote on my MK80 started to work exept one small thing the Power button,
With it I can put device on standby (red light) and wake it up (blue light) but once it is turned off (no light) I cannot start it up with the power button.
Is it expected or am I doing something wrong ?
