Intel Based Pipo Tablets - Discussion

I thought I would start a thread to discuss the "W" Series tablets from Pipo. I know there are tons of other brands putting out tablets with Windows...and some even have dual boot capabilities. Onda and Teclast have their products available right now with dual boot, but Pipo currently has no dual boot offerings.

I would love to have a tablet that boots in either Android or Windows.

After such success I have with the X7 TV Box from Pipo, I've decided to work a little more with my W4. It currently only boots Windows. But I ran across an Android firmware version for the W4 which I've downloaded and started reading the instructions for flashing (after using Google Translate).

While I've flashed Android hundreds of times on many devices...I have yet to attempt it on an Intel device...let alone a tablet.

So, we are charting new territory...or at least I am.

I will zip this W4 Android firmware and provide a link to it shortly. But by no means consider me an expert on it's use.

So let me open the discussion and we can all help each other learn.

As promised, here is a link to Pipo's W4 Android firmware.

I have done absolutely nothing to this firmware...no rooting or anything.

I need to take some time to figure out the process of modding it. One thing I did do was paste the English Google Translate version of the instructions at the bottom of the .doc file.

            hello.
i recently bought Pipo W4s which is the improved version of W4.
It has dual boot OS which pre-installs Windows 8.1 and Android 4.4.

My problem is that android doesn't come with the android market/google play.
I tried installing (Gapps) but it does not work. Do i need to root?

Please help me since im new to android. Thanks.

Most obviously you need root on that device to install or remove anything. For rooting Google for kingo root. And after rooting install Google Play Services.

If that's not working search for modded google play and install it.

I looked at the contents of that W4_Android.zip here.
Confusing two files: STAGE2.ROM - 2048 Kb and BIOSUPDATE.fv - 4348 Kb (the size in uncompressed form).
I have seen a lot of different archives with the androids for dualboot, now, these files look like random.
And in the instructions inside the archive on these files a word, how to use them ?
                  Normal BIOS file weighs 8388 Kb ( 8 388 608 bytes )
And incomprehensible ramdisk-droidboot.img and ramdisk-recovery.img , because there always is
                  normal droidboot.img and recovery.img
You need to give detailed instructions to update the BIOS, because the archive it is not.

Nobody told that it's dualboot. It looks like just an android only firmware.

Original pipo w4 bios update weights 5mb so this one doesn't look much different.

OP is not the author of the firmware as it's a chinese one.
Instructions are small as required to run the installation, but still there is no detailed info about the firmware, versions, included software and op doesn't respond on PM. :<

I only know how to flash the BIOS in the form *.bin.
For pipo W4 me there is only one version of the BIOS V8L_WIN32_JS_PIPO_2014_10_17_20140927_DX.BIN .
But I can't get DnX mode on my tablet ? In my tablet the screen DnX mode skips quickly
How to make on pipo W4 DnX mode ?
                      Can DnX mode will work if I update the BIOS using a BIOSUPDATE.fv ( STAGE2.ROM ) ?
How to update BIOS using a BIOSUPDATE.fv ( STAGE2.ROM ) if your tablet is not working yet DnX mode ?

Maybe the problem is that on the official website for pipo W4 on the link for PiPO W4 bios Software 2014_12_31
mistakenly posted an older version of the BIOS V8L_WIN32_JS_PIPO_2014_10_17_20140927_DX.BIN ?
If so, be so kind and give a link to a good version of the BIOS for pipo W4.
Possibly for old W4 fit the BIOS from the new model pipo W4 Double system ?

Hello, one of most problem of PiPO W4 is that there aren't recharging led and/or on-screen battery information when you recharge and the device is turned off.
I have read that somebody has flashed android on PiPO W4.
Could you please tell me, after flashing android, when you turn off the tablet and recharge it, is there any on-screen battery indicator level?

                        Thank you :-)
