Need help with my M8 Eny and the way it's acting

Not too fancy with the box and the whole rom stuff but perhaps I could get an answer or two. I am running Kodi on it and it's just been going bad. When I turn it on, it backs out right away. Sometimes it goes into it and when I click on a menu, the screen goes black. I purchased this box from a seller and it had Xbmc 13.2 gotham. Since last year, I haven't updated the firmware to this box. I was wondering, if I update it (through the update app it has built into it), will I lose this 'root' I have on it? Also, if it is updated, can I still run Xbmc/Kodi? Perhaps I should update it and maybe get some overall bugs fixed. If this is the case, do i have to manually find the file online and put it on an sd card or I can do it right from the app on the box?

very old firmware you can try bunch of newer rom posted on this site most custom roms are rooted also. kodi needs root permisions.

Thank you for letting me know. I saw your roms but I'm just not too sure how to install it without messing something up.

With most roms for this box here just unzip onto Root of SD card or USB Thumb drive.

2 options you can update via the android UI Update&Backup or you can do Toothpick Method Update, I think best option for you would be via the Android UI.

try them all if you like and find which one works best for you.

You're amazing JustMe. Thank you for helping me. Can you send me a link to your rom? Also, what if there are more zipped files? I basically just drag and drop your rom zip file into my sdcard, open the update&backup and I'm good to go?

I wouldn't worry too much about root if flashing with a newer stock firmware, you can always use this to get root back http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...oot-ZIP-update

Morning! Thank you for the instructions. I am trying to follow it now and here's what's going on JustMe:
I downloaded the rom, extracted the zip into my blank sd card, turned on UPDATE&BACKUP. Now it becomes weird. When I tick wipe data and wipe media the next thing I clicked on Select (to select the rom). After a few seconds, the screen goes black and stays for about 10 seconds. After that, it brings me back to the UPDATE&BACKUP screen with nothing on it but the title in the upper left corner of the screen (saying UPDATE&BACKUP). The update, select and all those buttons are gone. Any advice?

p.s. As soon as i click the back button once on my remote, it goes back to the full UPDATE&BACKUP screen with wipe data and wipe media already ticked off. Doubt it wiped anything really? Also, I tried the toothpick method and couldn't find the main file. I checked under FileBrowser and the show up as they should. I will include pictures. The rom zip file I downloaded was unzipped inside the sdcard but it didn't show when I was in that recovery mode. Now I'm stuck on both methods although I would much rather do the update from the UPDATE&BACKUP. Also, when this gets sorted out and if I do end up doing the toothpick method, am i looking for the system.img file to install or?

You have unzip 2 files you only need to unzip once and you should have only 3 files.

I don't understand. I did not unzip anything twice. The rom I downloaded was a zip folder. All I did was extract that to the sdcard and nothing more.
What should I do? Format the sdcard, right-click on v1.6c.justme.multiedition and click on extract it to the sdcard or am i doing it work?

some times it does that when the sdcard is not ready just back out and then go back into it again

I've gone in and back out about 50 times already today. It is really messed up JustMe. Anyways, by dragging the compressed folder into the SD seemed to do the trick and was able to find it via the toothpick method. I will include a pic since it did not find a file. Not sure if it needs to be done again and if it's a big problem, but see for yourself and please let me know. Thanks a lot!

p.s. I believe it worked! This looks so amazing wow..especially the intro you have. One last thing, now that I've set up my network and screen borders, what do I do when I get to the Kodi Launcher Settings? I've never seen this before not do I know what it is..how do I get to the main screen with all the apps/squares?

never mind that data.tar error to me it look like you succeded in flashing.

when you reboot it may take some time at first to get screen display
