Unlike roms from Riley, Cyangenmod is compiled from source.First, always newest Android version available (including security patches - important!), second - performance is much better (old KitKat builds use old compilers and toolchains, who knows what that chinese folks used there).

Riley roms is nothing more than modified official firmware, but not compiled from sources, so basically the same as official but removed unnecesary stuff. Still old KitKat 4.4.2, including all its vulnerabilities.
