My MINIX NEO Z64 Windows Edition Impressions

    Hi all,

I've connected up my MINIX NEO Z64 up and put together my impressions of the device so far.

First thing is that I'm very impressed with the build quality of the unit. It's incredibly solid-feeling and this weight makes it feel expensive.

Windows runs really well and I haven't noticed any lag with any animations.

Benchmarking did cause the box to heat up but I didn't notice any throttling during both 3DMark and prime95 which is excellent.

WiFi performance seemed really stable and I was able to stream 1080p videos from my NFS share without any buffering.

Kodi worked well, with automatic frame-rate switching and 4K H.264 decoding working as expected. I wasn't able to get MPC-HC decoding the 4K H.264 sample I use, but that could be more to do with config.

I've uploaded more photos and details at http://hometheatrelife.com/minix-neo...el-windows-pc/

Do I notice it right that MINIX doesn't use detachable antenna at this device?

BTW: I will never understand why people measure temperatures outside the SoC and/or case while the temperatures at the SoC effects the SoC (e.g. lifetime and throttling)...

Yep, you're right. Unfortunately MINIX have opted for an attached antenna like their other devices.

I agree with you regarding the SoC temps and is something that I'm trying to work out how to do without cracking open the cases.

Have a look at the pipo heatsink mod thread...

That's an odd choice on the antenna - both the X7 and X8 antenna can be removed.
