wrt post #7 - RkAndroidTool - not seen that before, but if it can backup bootloader etc from NAND, would be happy to make some partition / bootloader images for you if needed.
Still reckon your hudl is fixable, RkFlashKit just looks like a GUI front end to Linux rkflashtool - your linked page still talks/suggests about having to use the windows tool to restore the bootloader though.
A lot of these tools seem to be different versions of the same thing like the hudl Linux backup/restore script I wrote over on modaco.
