Polaroid PMID4311 CWM Recovery 5.5.0.4 Install Directions

DANGER INSTALL AT YOUR PERIL: This is highly experimental and could potential destroy Klingons around Uranus as well as render your tablet useless. It is not my fault if you do not follow directions and brick your tablet. I did not create or program anything. I simply followed other people's instructions and found success.

    1. Get Market installed on your PMID4311 following Nate's instructions found here:

    2. Go into Google Play Market and search for SuperUser app and install it. Open SuperUser app--> settings and update it. Reboot

    3. Go into Google Play Market and search for Terminal app and install it.

    4. I am using the 5.5.0.4 Recovery found in this link provided by William Kleiman. https://docs.google.com/folder/d/0B4...WUE/edit?pli=1
Copy Recovery.img and install-recovery.sh to root of internal sdcard. Run terminal app and type the following:
    >su
    #>cd \mnt\sdcard
    #>sh install-recovery.sh

    5. Hold Power and shut down tablet.

    6. Hold Volume + key while hold power button. Once Polaroid displays on screen, release power button while continuing to hold volume + key. Once you are in Recovery, you can navigate the menus by using volume + and volume -. The power button is the select or enter key.

    ----------------
Note- It does mess up the mounting of your SDcards initially on first reboot of ICS. Remove external SD card after 1st reboot after recovery install for stability.
Yes, I own a PMID4311 that came with ICS 4.0.4. Yes I tried this on my own tablet and it reboots and mounts both SDcards fine everytime.
    ------------------------------------
    Update 12/9/2012
Dolores Park has developed a kernel fix for CWM 6.0.1.2 for ICS with 10 Partitions (OEM 10 partition layout) provided by Dolores here:

**Do NOT install the 9 partitioned edition, install Dolores Park's CM10 IMG file with LiveSuite to get 9 partitions first.

A while ago, jtintle posted an apk that does this with a little less danger.

Here's the link: http://jtintle.com/items/show/5 <--that should work until I can bake an elektricity ROM version for this tab.

      Nice tool, thanks

IMPORTANT EDIT: Important note that this version of CWM does not sign backups and thus can not complete a backup and errors out. I do not endorse this version.

          CWM issues

Tried both ways (apk and install-recovery.sh) on a PMID4311.

It seems that the KK Rom Kit 9.apk way loads a CWM that, though nicer looking, gave me errors during backup, touch screen didn't work, and could not access the external SD. The install-recovery.sh way installs a CWM 5.5.0.4 beta 15 version that looks terrible but was completely functional.

Likewise, dolorespark's CM10 rom includes version CWM 6.0.1.2 which is just some version that was "patched the kernel so the buttons would work correctly" (http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...ll=1#post39767).

What I'd like to know is if there is any consolidated development regarding CWM for the PMID4311? I'm thankful that there are so many people working on getting this working, but it seems like the development is too fractured to get an "Official" version for users.

The only development I've seen for the PMID4311 are not CWM, but more a combo of both CWM with a ROM. CM10/CWM 6.0.1.2 by DoloresPark and
CM9/CWM 5.5.0.4 by William Kleiman found below...
            1. Flash CWM 5.5.0.4 beta 15 I linked to (fully functional but big and ugly)
            2. Install cm9_nightly_20120913.zip --> https://docs.google.com/folder/d/0B4...0xV0VpZ0U/edit
            3. Install CM9-AOKP_BOOT_sun5i-PMID4311-v.2.1.zip --> https://docs.google.com/folder/d/0B4...UMwR2c1RDZlLWM
            4. Wait for like 10+ minute for 1st boot.

The problem with CM9 is you run out of internal system ROM memory quickly. In CM10 by DoloresPark the system allocated memory is fixed by removing backed up OEM files on a dedicated partition which Dolores allocated back to the system, allowing for a 380mb system partition, rather than 261mb.
CM10 is fully functional and is my daily driver.

Thanks for the links. I will give them a try tonight.

Also, did you try out dolorespark's new CWM 6.0.1.2 yet? http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...ll=1#post40294
There's a separate img available so we might be able to replace our 5.5.0.4b15s. Gonna try that out too.

Refer to my first post. Do NOT flash this if you have 10 partitions.
I pony'd up and upgraded to CM10 by Dolores Park.

Yeah, I tried it already. That CWM didn't like this zip. http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...ll=1#post40422

Thing I didn't like about the CM10 was the constant needing to resize the screen and the already-integrated-gapps. I'm just messing with this in preparation for Christmas (got 2 for my 6- and 5-year-old nieces). Because of that, they will need some decent recovery due to busy little fingers. I might give it another try just for the halibut anyway.

The CM9 you linked to seems like it might be a good option because both home and back buttons are essentially the back button. I'll keep checking the William's updates to see if anything gets final or stable. If not, then I'll probably just stay stock because Christmas will probably be the last time I see them (tabs and nieces) for a while.

Oh, and does William have a dev thread or something? The "Update Me" program has a version of CWM 6.0.1.0 in there and apparently it doesn't install correctly via the program. Also, for some reason, CM9 spontaneously restarts from time to time (did it 4 times already responding to your post).

Started a blog recently also. Here's my post about the PMID4311: http://outskirtsofobscurity.blogspot...1-hacking.html

If I remember, William Kleiman's links were related to A10 CM9 and CM10 development threads I found at XDAdevelopers.com or Slatedroid.com from a Google search. DoloresPark took bits and pieces from here to develop her build.
"Update me" is a nice app, but much like you I've found nothing it "updates" to be usable.

Good job on the blog. It's worth a cross linked thread of its own here.

On DP's CM10, her CWM works great. I wish CMW 5.5.0.4 beta 15 was smaller font. A derivative of this CWM's exact build is what I use on my Gtablet DRH CM9.
