    Imito MX2 a bit of a disapointment

    Hello

Here's my review of my MX2, enjoy

The MX2 I received came it's surprisingly small, came with all the bits required, it was wonderful.

However I soon discovered some annoying hiccups, here's what I've found...

It's not rooted, that's shocking considering there's really no reason it shouldn't be rooted
The device performs great until you start to download stuff, I tested it with Torrents & NZB's and both can make the device freeze, jittery, and generally become unusable. The cpu and memory are completely fine, they arn't taxed out at all. It makes the mouse movements jerk, it makes video playback stop and start, it makes live wallpapers freeze. This is by far my biggest complaint about the device, it's extremely annoying.

It also seems to drop the wifi every once in a while, I am using the foxfi on my S3 which is no more than 4 ft away.

Hope that the company resolves these issues or this is going to really turn me off to these devices in the future.

    Sorry for your dissapointment.

    1) ROMs from factory WILL NEVER BE ROOTED! Why? Because they cannot support the customer complaints when it wont boot because you rooted users hosed up the system! This is why custom ROMs WARN you about violating warrenty!

    2) This web site would not exist if manufacturer ROMs were perfect! Sorry but I enjoy this fact... All they do is port AOSP ROMs and kick it out the door for you to buy. Expect that! If it changes, this web site will be DEAD

So, all I can say it expect what you pay for. Want more? Use a ROM made by Dev's that have the device and WATCH how well your piece of crap turns into a usable device!

"Прости им, они не ведают, что творят"
"Perdona loro perché non sanno quello che fanno"
"Vergib ihnen, denn sie wissen nicht, was sie tun"
"Vergeef hen want ze weten niet wat ze doen"
"Pardonne-leur car ils ne savent pas ce qu'ils font"
"Perdónalos porque no saben que lo que hacen"
"Oprosti im, jer ne znaju što čine"
"Forgive them as they know not what they do"

Well alot of people won't bother rooting their device let alone put a new rom in it, that's what this review is about. I found rooting it to be quite a pain, I mean my computers at first couldn't even find the device, we had to spend half an hour getting the computer to see it and for Moborobo to install drivers, a horrible experience.

Your rom so far is the only one for this device, I think there might be a russian one too but it's russian! From what I read, your rom doesn't fix the network issue, so it wouldn't help me.... Or would it? Does it help with jitters?

I know how those Chinese factories work, they just bang them out and send them on their way. Unfortunately, they don't have a real US based operation that sells it so they aren't controlling what comes out, they don't have accountability. This also means that Imito doesn't have any liability because they are in China. It's not impossible to sue someone there but its almost impossible.

However, it's still much cheaper than getting a used handset and turning it into a TV device. Sad thing is, I have a few Droid X's lying around, I could use them for android TV's... Oh yeah, you can't charge them and have HDMI plugged in, Thanks Moto!

"SHOCKING THAT IT DOESNT COME PRE ROOTED?????" ROOTING is not meant for "A LOT OF PEOPLE", there is absolutely NO DEVICE that comes Pre Rooted... Rooting is only meant for those who take the pain to do it, while selling Pre-Rooted devices might boost sales by atleast 10%, the reason big companies like Samsung dont do it is that it would increase issues and calls in by 1000%...

While I do agree with it not being buttery smooth but performance wise compare it with any $200 android phone on the market(barring the nexus 4) and it performs smooth enough... dollar to performance ratio is better than anything that I have used (again barring the nexus 4)...

I just got this device and am perfectly happy with it, I created an Id and had to post this just to let prospective buyers know that the issues quoted here are highly exaggerated (not sure of the wifi issues... for me the range is 90% of what I get on my devices and I own a nexus 4, nexus 7, ipad 3, one x, note, note 2 and s3)

(Just to let you guys know am not affiliated with iMito ina ny way and am a impartial buyer just google Cursed4Eva, I have over 200 Videos on YouTube and my Website )

Btw if you guys feel rooting its difficult Ill make a video tut this week to help you out

        Cheers

And @Bob keep up the gr8 work

I have to agree with Bob here ( not even due to the fact that his is his forum ). If you take your time and read all of the imput provided here and on a few others supporting the Rockchip DEV community there are plenty of easy tips to greatly improve your user experience. List below in no particular order:

          1. Update to the latest optimized ROM
          2. Do a hardware check
          -Use quality HDMI cables
-Limit peripherals directly connected to the device (causes instability due to power load)
-Use a good quality powered USB HUB for peripherals
-Replace power block for constant power (Chinese one provided is often unreliable causing instability)
-take care in plugging unplugging micro usb due to weak solder points resulting in unit damage)
          3. WiFi on these units can be spotty. If yours is too weak...
          -Use ethernet adapter
-Try adjusting the position of your device
-Try adjusting your router position or antennae relative to the device
-Carefully open and remove the antennae from the housing (look in the forums for details)
-If you are really into modding resolder or modify the antennae provided

This is a rapidly developing technology so like most front edge technologies it is still in development so their will be some hiccups. The good news is all of the people in the DEV forums are willing to help and move this forward. If you want to get in now just be aware of the issues but I think most will agree these are great devices and a huge bang for the buck currently. As the development continues so will the ease of these devices.

I am not seeing the issues you described for pausing or hesitating. I have seen this when transferring large files from internal storage to a USB HD. I really think the internal storage is slow and this may be the cause of this. I have moved everything to an external USB HD. So my internal storage has expanded to 6gigs and all apps to SD are moved to the HDD. That alone has increased the spee of the device as the USB harddrive is faster than the internal memory(benchmarks show the increase).

As for WIFI use https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...aWZpb25vZmYiXQ.. to help. What this will do is turn the WIFI off and back on when the signal drops the connection. I used this before I switched to USB LAN and it worked great.

Again, as mentioned above, the stock PS sucks. I bought a nice 3amp from a local PC store and it is much better. This unit loves power and the more the merrier. Just remember it must be 5V no more!!! but 3A seems to be the sweet spot.

I also have a nice 7 port USB hub(self powered). Plugged in is a Logitech webcam, Logitech wireless gaming controller, Logitech KB/Mouse combo, 1Tb Seagate hard drive, and a 750G hard drive VIA a 2.5 inch USB case. Even with all that plugged in I have no issues with hiccups.

I have noticed that a few people have gotten a different colored motherboard in there unit. Those seem to have issues. Also noticed that people that have issues a plugging these things in without thinking about where it is setting. Mine is freely supended, not setting, which allows it to cool better. The CPU in these things can get hot and start shutting down to prevent damage. If you have the unit setting there on a shelf CPU side down it wont dissipate the heat properly. Also people jam these things in a corner letting the heat build up as well as a few placing them directly in the path of the cooling fan coming off their TV/Xbox and so forth. Heat is a killer with any electronics and not seeing where your placing it can have negative impacts on it.

Over all I love my MX1 and it has taken everything I have thrown at it and then some. It's going to be nice when a good quad core comes along as I'll be able to put this one in my bedroom and use it for a media player only VIA XBMC.

Again try some of the above and what I said. It's a good device just give it a chance.

My immediate thought when I read the lead in complaint of this thread is exactly what Bob opined & this: What company in its right mind would release any computing or Internet device rooted? Consumer reaction would be living hell.

Most buyers are generally fine with lets use for example their Samsung Galaxy Tab2 tablet or their or their Rikomagic MK802 III --out of the box. Only a small percentage have complaints & want to root their device. Consider the number of complaints you see posted on Forums. At most, the authors represent a tiny fraction of a percent of the buyers and owners. Do you think any company could survive if that tiny number of buyers even began to represent a significant percentage of their total sales?

The Android mini pc is a evolving device and the companies involved in designing and producing them are small, not huge Apple or Intel sized corporations with billions to invest in product development, so they assemble and throw out there their latest offering, which come at a rate of every few weeks.

The evolution of these Android mini pcs have just reached the point where one of the bigger & more innovative companies, Measy recently took a stab at combining the more desirable features into one mini pc for an incredible under $80 price.

I agree those here who say they do not experrience the problems with their iMito MX1 that you claim you do. Is it possible you have a knock off?

I picked up a usb ethernet adaptor, but everytime I plug in the network cable it shuts down the power on the unit. Any thoughts why this is happening?

You can try these two things. They worked from me.
1- Plug you USB ethernet adaptor into a USB hub. It needs to be powered.
2- Flash the new Finless 1.7 ROM

XBMC runs much better for me after making those 2 changes.
