N70S Flashing Challenges

I started this thread to let everyone know that I have one of these tablets in the house. We are a learning community, so sharing this experience might help me right now...but hopefully someone else who has this similar situation in the future.

I actually bought the N70S for my dad as a Christmas present. I use an N101-1 and really like it, but I thought my dad would like a 7" tablet better. It has most of the same specs as the N101, with only 8gig of NAND and a 7" screen...everything else looks and acts pretty much the same.

I want to add the Freaktab.com magic to it before I turn it over to him.

Since nobody, here has tackled a ROM for this device, I've been PMing Bob for guidance, and he advised me to download the latest official firmware from Yuandao and see which of the multiple N70 ROM's would work.

First of all, everything in these downloads is in Chinese, so you really can't read the instructions. I couldn't even get the flashtool to run without deleting the Chinese characters from the filenames/folder names. The flashtool doesn't come with pre-installed parameter information. So I have a flashtool that runs, but not configured to flash the ROM.

I have the tablet in flash mode.

With their tool, I can erase NAND/IDB, OK.

It goes ahead and flashes and verifies the downloaded img file, but the tablet stays in flash mode and never reboots.

At least I'm stuck in flash mode.

What I don't know is...how long can I leave this thing in flash mode before something fry's in it?

If anyone can give me some pointers on what I need to do to get this official firmware to flash, I can verify that it does work and let Bob know which firmware to use to build a ROM.

I'm just not experienced at all with setting up these flash tools from scratch.

So which flash tool is it?

RKbatch tool which does not have an erase IDB button but has buttons like upgrade and restore?

Or it it like my RK Android TOol which has erase IDB, flash etc.

If the ROM is a single img, you can only use RKbatch tool and to erase you MUST use the restore button not the upgrade button.

Let me share my results for the benefit of the community.

I flashed the newest firmware for the N70S, labeled N70S-Q. With the RKBatchTool. For some reason, they supplied both tools in the kit (which was confusing).

It booted back to normal, and everything works fine.

As far as I'm concerned, rooting is all this tablet needs at the moment. CMW recovery would be nice. There are some incompatible apps in GP that could be fixed. Otherwise it's a good tablet. There are just 3 Chinese apps that I don't know what they are, that could be debloated.

I'm a 10" tablet man, myself...but this little thing rocks.

Making your ROM now. I see for application space the parameter file gives only 1 meg of app install space. Do you want me to up that to 2megs?

Also since I cannot flash this I need some info.

1) is this Jellybean? or is this ICS?
2) What apps after boot get updated by Google Play? e.g. Gmail, etc.
3) I assume you want petrus reboot app installed?

OK I got this to flash on one of my TV sticks. I got it... It's JB and a crap load off google apps including play services need to be updated. I will update all int he ROM.

I was thinking about picking the n70 up, but I was worried that the n101 rom wouldn't likely work and there seemed to be no development on the n70.

I love my pmid701i, and really think 7" is the perfect size for me. I used a 10" (ipad) a friend had for a while, and found it to be too big for my taste. But, as much as I like my 701i, it could be so much better!
Better screen! Faster dual core processor! Camera! More storage!
The N70 looks to have it all...

And now it's getting a finless rom.. hmmmm...

I'm excited to see this. I'll help by buying one and testing! (as soon as I can talk my wife into it)...

P.S. I saw in another thread that in4dealz was working with you for some of their products. If they are supporting you and you like them, I'll go there. They have nearly the best price anyway.

I have only two 2 questions:
1. Has finally bob released his firmware for this tablet? Because his latest post is from 16 dec 2012 and I don't see any new thread with his firmware.
2. Is this about N70S or N70? Or they are the same? (except the ISP sceen of course)

Randy has my ROM with a custom boot and animation just for him. I just do not have time right now to release a public version. Randy can feel free to share this ROM with you all on our server.

OK, guys...this will be my first ROM.

since I gave this tablet to my Dad for Christmas, I don't have a platform to test on. Therefore, I won't be making too many changes to Bob's work...other than a bootanimation and some homework assignments from 900Supersport who is my current teacher.

Give me a little bit, and I'll create a new thread with the requested ROM.

Can anyone with this tab confirm if Gameloft games such as asphalt 7 work on the tab?
