PMID705 Allwinner A13 tablet from Big Lots

Hi, i noticed that this seems to be the place to go for Polaroid tablet support.

I recently purchased this tablet from big lots , it was "semi rooted" so i installed SuperSU and updated su binaries. Then i installed Google Play Store to the system folder. All went smoothly, i also installed CWM recovery from terminal emulator. It was the "nandj" version (10 partitions, installed to nandg) from William Kleiman's Google Docs acct. It works to backup and restore the tablet. although the touch part doesn't work. I also got adventurous an installed AOKP from William's Google Docs acct, and used pmid702c compatability zip, it did boot but i lost touch screen functionality. interested in getting this to work by modifying that zip. Any info in the right direction would be appreciated.

Also after typing "reboot recovery" into terminal it just restarted into android with system partition reading as "full" in "settings" but i could copy to it via es file explorer, so not sure what happened there, but i was able to get the tablet back to normal by flashing it with live suite. So to get into recovery i hit factory reset in setting which enters CWM.

Again thanks in advance to any and all help, i really appreciate it.

P.s. i know my way around Android/Linux but do not consider myself An expert or a developer, so be patient with me.

    Current/Past devices:
    Acer A500
    B&N Nook Tablet
    Polaroid PMID705
    Nextbook7 Premium (sold)
    Nexus S (sold)
HTC EVO 3D (RIP, Touch Screen quit, never replaced)

Update... Plus i need some info from a developer .

    UPDATE
Actually entering cwm from backup/restore in settings only formats data and cache then reboots. The only way i have sucessfully gotten into CWM is through the option in KK romkit 9 by jintle. although dont install that version as the touchscreen doesnt work and the hardware buttons are not functional. But the app does reboot to recovery properly.

If anyone knows another way into recovery please let me know as quick bootterminal, rom toolbox and "reboot recovery" from terminal dont seem to work and i cant find a button combo either.

Which version of Play Store did you install and how did you get it into the system folder? Mine is fully rooted and I have Play Store version 3.1.3 installed and working but having a lot of Force Quits.

i simply copied vending.apk from a gapps.zip file to the system/apps folder and have not had any problems with the "play store". it seems to work good , i thought about modding the build.prop to try and spoof another device so that it would display a better selection of apps but it gave me enough without any mods that i havent messed with it yet,

I am however very interested in finding the newest AOSP or AOKP allwinner rom that i can and making a new compatibility zip for it. i have the touchscreen driver ffrom this tablet i just need to modify the 702c comatibility zip that already exists, if anyone can help please let me know , it would be great to bring AOKP to these tablets. (I had it booting just no touch with the 702c zip)

well you are in luck , it comes "semi-rooted" just make sure u have "unknown sources" turned on in settings then download "superuser" (google it). and you are done.I would go to settings in the superuser app and hit upgrade su binaries, (I will edit this with more detailed instructions in the morning)

Download GApps, Roms, Kernels, Themes, Firmware, and more. Free file hosting for all Android developers.

should be the only file you need, just use "es file explorer" or something to copy it to /system/app/ and you should be good to go.

As far as custom roms , as of right now there arnt any for the PMID705 , but i am currently making a Jelly Bean 4.2.2 rom for our device, but i need more help/time. I will let you know when i get farther along, i dont want to release it to everyone yet as it still has a couple of issues.(minor ones i think)

I just picked up a used 705 for my son and would love to try out a rom if you are still working on it.

                    Thanks!

                      pmid 705 full root instructions

Hey guys managed full root on 705

1 download ota firmware version 1( ics)
                      WWW.Polaroid.com/support /firmware

                      2 follow instructions for flashing
                      do full format

                      3 install superuser,root explorer,and app2sd.

The format allows superuser to gain root easily
I also suggest cm7 gapps after root explorer is installed
Replace all stock gapps using cm7 gapps for Polaroid pmid 701i

I would test out a 4.1 or 4.2 rom if you have one.

                        Thanks
