Arnova 7G2 Full Root with Market3.4.4 installed - By Finless 2nd attempt

OK folks... My new ROM for the 7 G2. It's version 1.3 with the Market 3.4.4
Sorry about the FAIL on my part last time... This one should work!

Big thanks to Damo for making me a cool boot screen. I hope you like it.

Features:
1) Google Market latest version 3.4.4 pre-installed and ready to use!
This includes a working Google Calendar and Contacts sync.
Also includes Google Gmail, and News / Weather. All of these are up to date!
No post updates required for Google apps for now until Google updates them.
2) 1GB off app install space (the max possible). Stock ROM only has 255mb
Testers are saying the system is MUCH faster now
3) Full root as /system was converted from Cramfs to EXT3 file system PROPERLY BLOCKED!
4) Added space in /system to allow "root" apps to install there (200 megs)
5) Latest up to date SU and Superuser.apk installed
6) Root permissions granted
7) ADB and USB debugging enabled by default

Notes:
1) This is for the Arnova 7 G2 ONLY. Do not try to use this on any other model like the 7c G2, etc. You will brick your tablet otherwise. Stay tuned I will be releasing ROMs for the other Arnova’s soon!

2) If you have never flashed one of my ROMs before, you cannot just copy files over to the SDCard. You must use the flashing tool I provide in my ROM kit. No exceptions. This will require you to install drivers on your PC. In my kit I have tested and supplied drivers for Win32 and 64.

3) This ROM has been tested by others so we know it works.

4) Market issues. Market issue "may" still exist. This is common on tablets that are not really supported by Google as a registered device. Most users have no issues but sometimes there can be, The 2 issues that seem to arise when your FIRST TIME try to use the Market are:

A) Cannot logon; "Cannot establish a reliable data connection"
I have tried to recreate this and troubleshoot this. My belief if in fact this happens sometimes when Google servers are doing something or something is going on with them. WHen I had this happen once I simply waited a while and it worked later. So I cannot help too much here. My only suggestion to try is this
a) Install a root file manager like root explorer or ES file manager (enable root access for them)
b) Go in with the file manager and delete /data/misc/imei/imei or data.dat which ever one exists

B) Limited apps listed; I have reproduced this and know how to recreate it and fix it! This has to do (I beleive) that after a factory reset or a flash the tablet creates a ID based on some other IDs and a random key generator. Sometimes this ID Google does not like. So we have to clear that and reboot.
YOU DO NOT EVER NEED TO REFLASH OR DO A FACTORY RESET TO FIX THIS!!!!
DO the following
a) Again using a file manager that has root access go in and delete the follow folders completely
com.android.vending (not com.applib.vending!)
com.android.vending.updater
com.google.android.gm
com.google.android.gsf
b) Reboot and do nothing else but run the Market. YOu should get a prompt asking you to accept the Google terms of service. If you did not you did something wrong. Do it again. If you do get the prompt, accept and now the Market should work fully with TONS of apps showing up.

Tweaks

Finless. Thank you very much for your work. I installed the rom and so far is working great. I like the idea of a basic rom with the market, so you add what you need and nothing else. Great job!.

One question, can I remove appslib from /system/apps?. I dont use it.

I find this rom stable but it needs some tweaks. I disabled dialer,wizard and appslib from startup. It's much faster. These services run at startup by default. I stopped them using the autostarts app.

Another tweak for battery life would be to edit the build prop file / "scan interval" and increase it to 300. By default is at 15. This can be easily changed with rom toolbox app. This setting tell the wifi radio to scan at these intervals and you dont want the wifi scanning so often, so battery gets drained.

I will continue testing your rom and tweaking when is possible. Thank you.

I agree with you by leaving everything at default in most aspects, but well known tweaks. I am really happy to hear that you will release a new one soon. That's great news!!.

As from me, I would like to see in your new rom:

1) Minimum apps as possible. All apps can be installed from the Market.

2) Wifi scan interval increased to 300 from 15 (default)

3) I am not sure about this one but let me elaborate. I use linux from time to time and I do prefer EXT2 file system instead of EXT3/4. EXT2 doesnt have journaling so it performs faster but the risk of losing information increases, if the system is not shut down properly. I remember using "noatime" in the kernel parameters to dissable journaling. That's why I think EXT2 should be more appropiate for this kind of device. Since it has batteries, is not very probable that a bad shutdown can occur.

I am not sure how difficult this would be to inplement in your rom, but you decide what is best, you know more than me in this field.

4) Ad Blocker hostfile

5) Animations turn off by default. Default is on. I noticed that turning off this setting in display it speeds up everthing.

6) Dark theme and plain black wallpaper. At night I get blinded with the default white calendar. If everything would be dark, I would be a happy camper.

7) Lower setting for the brightness. I would love that.

8) If skype would work with the camera, it would be awesome but I know, this is up to the skype developer team.

As for EXT2. 1.4 will be full EXT4. What I mean by that is some roms out there that claim to be ext4 are not. The ext4 kernel module will mount ext3 and ext2 formatted images. Due to the work of Fenice57 he created a new recovery system that will format after flash, data and cache as ext4 not the default ext3. Without a new recovery system to properly format mounts as ext4, you will not get any benefit of ext4 even if the kernel supports it!!!

OK with that said, I have done benchmarking tests and trust me! Ext4 is faster by a decent margin than ext3. Have not tested ext2 since we have been working on ext4 upgrade all this time.
