    PTAB8000 DOA

    Hi,
    New member.
Bought my kid this Polaroid tablet ( PTAB8000 ) for christmas. I THOUGHT it was a super deal. After sale/rebate/Kohl's Cash I think we paid <$70.
It's been in storage in the box since black Friday. I tried to fire it up christmas morning and got nothing out of it.
It didn't seem to respond to being connected to the charger - no lights or anything like you might expect to see. Upon pressing/holding the power button it does nothing at all.
(I have verified the charger is functional with another device that charges via micro USB.)

I've had a Skypad Alpha 2 android tab and currently have a Blackberry playbook. My wife uses an android phone as well, so between the Android platform and tablets in general I'm not completely clueless.

After spending close to 2 hrs on hold I finally tracked down the CS email address and at least got an auto response so hopefully that will get me somewhere.

Mainly I'm curious if there was a mass quantity of these that are DOA, and also about their general history for reliability. My kid isn't quite 5 yet so I don't expect this to live a gentle life -- assuming I eventually get one that works.

Plug it in and let it charge for a few hours.

If it's really dead (low battery) it could take a while to charge it up enough to show any signs of life.

Also, FWIW, it takes a really long press of the power button to turn it on (seems like forever). You have to press and hold it until the screen turns on and shows the Polaroid logo (feels like almost five seconds to me).

I think I have covered the basics.
I didn't charge it very long initially, but I never disconnected it from the charger.
After I realized it wasn't wanting to power up I let it charge for over an hour -- maybe closer to 2.
I held the pwr button for 5, 10, 30+ sec.
      No response at all.
