Is anti-virus necessary?

Hi all,

Just wondered, is it necessary to have any Anti-Virus protection with these TV sticks?

Mine is left on connected to the net 24/7. I wouldn't leave my PC connected for more than 2 minutes without AV!

Neither would i, just treat it as a normal PC,put the AV in. i use "lookout",does the job and isn't too heavy on the system

Most security threats to Android are user initiated. I.e. the user is dumb and installs apps and things from unknown and/or unreliable sources, not paying attention to what permissions an app requests when they install it, and the typical email/web phishing scams.

That said, an app like Lookout certainly is not a bad idea, as you never know what vulnerability/threat might pop up in the future.

I wasn't overly concerned ... but tripped over the Sophos app ... so I installed it ... I noticed it scanning other apps I installed ... later the same night, I tried installing some wallpaper ... Sophos said "I don't think so!" ... not sure what that was all about ... but now I'm not sure I'd go without, again?!
