Nextbook 8P12 is not responding...and I haven't even ROOTED IT YET!

Ok so I bought one of the now infamous 8P12 with AML chip on Black Friday from Big Lots. I haven't even gotten to root it, which was my intention from the start, because of the problems it has presented in doing so. So I have installed some apps that I could get from other stores, but not much, so my kids can play with it a little until then. HOWEVER!!! It was working last time it was used, which was maybe a day ago, and now the touch screen seems to have stopped responding. I have rebooted it a number of times. It goes through the normal processes that I can see, reads the SD card, then the locked homescreen comes up...all normal. But THEN, I can't unlock it. I turned it to all 4 positions and tried on every turn. Nada. I tried cleaning the screen, but still nothing. So I used the factory reset. Even THAT worked, but now it's asking me to set it up all over again and I CAN'T because the screen is still not registering any touches! Is this something that anyone here has heard of and knows how to fix or do I have to dig up the receipt and return the darn thing?

Also on that note, I went to the nextbookusa.com site to register the product in case I need to return it and the stupid form is asking for information that is hard for a newb like me to get. I had to look up "kernel" to find out they were asking for which operating system it had. Now it is asking for the build number. Is there a way to find that apart from checking it in Settings, because of course that won't work for me if I can't get into the machine! Any help would be appreciated. Sigh.

Nevermind...I returned and got a new one.

Still have AML chip and need to root. Charging this new unit now. Hopefully won't have another problem.
