MK802 IIIS As A Basic Desktop PC

Just bought a MK802 IIIS from Geek Buying to use as a basic desktop PC and wanted to know what would be needed to make this happen. Planning to hook the mini PC into one of the spare LCD monitors that I have around (eg Samsung SyncMaster 940B), along with a wireless Logitech keyboard/mouse combo (MK250), Seagate 500GB USB HD (powered by 240V AC adapter), and the Logitech Webcam (c525). Since none of the computer monitors have HDMI what would be a recommendation in terms of wireless speakers that work out of the box?

Biggest concern with the mini PC is getting a suitable 240V power adapter in order to provide sufficient power to the device without causing it to go unstable, and possibly frying it in the process. What is a good recommendation for a good quality 240V power adapter? Also what are some good choices for a USB hub with an on/off switch?

Does the mini PC come with software that supports the playing of PAL format videos? Noticed that a recommendation was made for a ROM suitable for the MK802 III (Finless 1.7), does that directly support bluetooth, and is it using Android 4.1 or greater?

    wow lots of questions!

you will need a hdmi to dvi converter box found for $35 or so!

i use a hipstreet brand 2.1amp usb to power adaptor its the one for the ipod and ipad just dont use the cord and it also came with usb to car but you wont need that ether!

plug any computer speakers or cord to an amp from the hdmi converter for sound and your keyboard and mouse will work i dont know if anything else on that list will work for sure

i am sure the 1.7 finless will not work for IIIS as its got a diffrent wifi and blutooth combo chip than on the ug802! i have both devices
Minix neo x7 custom quickshot V3.1 kitkat with cpu1700 video stock and oc ram 720 kernal
HTC Amaze 4g unofficial cyanogen mod 11 KitKat 4.4.4
    ASUS Nexus 7 (original 2012 tegra 3) Cyanogen mod 12 Lollipop 5.0.2

Bit of a bummer with Finless 1.7 not working with the MK802 IIIS. Will have to see if Finless is prepared to do a ROM covering the device. As for the webcam it fully works in Ubuntu 10.04 (incl auto focus), so there is a reasonable chance it will work in Android.

Could you use a cheap HDMI to DVI converter (i.e one that just changes the connector as the signals are compatible) for a few dollars and a USB "soundcard" to get the sound out to any powered speakers (again just a few $ on **** etc) as a cheaper solution?

Received confirmation that the MK802 IIIS is compatible with the iMito MX1/2 Finless 1.5 ROM. Can someone please provide instructions on how to install the ROM for the MK802 IIIS. Would prefer instructions involving a Linux PC (using an Ubuntu 12.04 laptop). Won't have a chance to try out the ROM for a week or two since the device is currently shipping.

Seems as though the 720p version of the kernel is more stable, faster etc. Something mentioned about the DPI setting needed to be changed, however a LCD monitor is being used (much smaller than the TV) so that shouldn't be an issue.

Mini PC arrived yesterday in the mail. Found a ViewSonic monitor (with built-in speakers) that has a single HDMI port on it which works flawlessly with the Mini PC even at the highest resolution. Rikomagic didn't provide a power supply in the box so I was forced to use the power adapter that comes with the Asus TF101 Transformer tablet, which supplies the right amount of power to the Mini PC (5V, 2A).

So far the Mini PC is running fine with no freezes/crashes. WiFi is working OK even though the signal strength is low (2 bars) and the WiFi router is about 2 meters away.

Expecting a response from Rikomagic on the missing power supply. Only got a power plug adapter which fits into a NZ power plug but hasn't got any clear way to connect directly into the device. Appears as though the back side fits into a US power plug which is absolutely useless .

Managed to get the webcam (Logitech C525) to work via Camera ICS only via the video capture mode. Clicking on the camera option causes the application to crash. Unfortunately when I tried the camera option a second time I can no longer go to the app without having it crash, is there any way to resolve this?

Managed to get the application working properly again after doing a restart on the device. Did a soft power shutdown and flicked the switch twice by the power socket.

mine didnt arrive yet so i cant test the 1.5 firmware! have you tried to use the rikomagic app from android play store to run the IIIS from your phone or tablet even get to use the g sensor for tilt games? i dont think this feature is installed on the 1.5 firmware as this is only on the IIIS at this point ! and am hoping that Finless Bob can include the files in his next release! it would probably work on every device as its just software!

i will let you know what was in my box when it comes

Don't see a very practical use for the remote control app with the device being used as a basic Desktop PC. Might be handy to use the app for any Android apps that don't properly support the keyboard and mouse (eg Google Earth). Have an HTC Desire X I can use as a remote control, which has a built-in g-sensor (a rarity in a mid range Android smartphone).

With that said Google Earth runs sluggishly when the 3D buildings layer is turned on. Expected 3D performance to be reasonably smooth. Will have to see if Finless 1.5 can significantly boot graphics performance (both 2D & 3D).

                      help me

                      Hi there,
Why writes the flash tool the following?

By the "reboot to flash mode":
"device cannot do flash mode because it is not msc device"

                      And at "nand erase" writes:
                      "download boot fail"
Shall I tick something by the nfs or ram tab?

The batch tool has an error too:
By the upgrade and restore write that download boot failed

So here I am. Trash? Or is there any solution? My eyes are hurting from the translations and from the wathching millions of pages. Can you help me please? The device is MK802III. I know it's not matching to this topic, but I'm really desperate yet....

                      Thank You!

You would be best to contact Finless (aka Bob White) about your flashing issues with the MK802 III.

                          Hi digiPixel,

I am also wanting to use the MK802IIIs as a desktop replacement.

I must say that I am quite happy for the moment. I am using an MK400 logitech keyboard when I am in the couch. I had to create custom keyboard files because I am using an azerty keyboard. All the keys are recognized :-) It is also working really great in combination with a Logitech LX500. The mouse is so easy to use on a desk!

I am still using the original ROM. I have now a big issue. My key doesn't boot anymore. It stays for ages on the boot animation. I didn't do anything special to the key! I played a movie on Bsplayer which froze. After that I wasn't able to boot anymore. This is the kind of unstability I really don't like.

I'll take the opportunity to boot the Finless ROM (1.5) and I will report back later here.

Don't hesitate to report all your findings ;-)

Very unfortunate that your Mini PC doesn't boot anymore. Since you didn't have a chance to properly shutdown the device via the soft power button, that may have done it.

Biggest issue I am having with the Finless 1.5 ROM at the moment is with every thing appearing too big in Chrome (text, images etc). Would really like to have access to the Ctrl + Mouse scroll wheel up/down shortcut in order to adjust the zoom level. Like a pinch to zoom in, stretch to zoom out on a touch screen smartphone/tablet.
