    Accessing HD over network thoughts.

I currently have an Imito, I am looking into ways of accessing my media content over the network. I currently have a windows home server, but keep my music and movies on an external hard drive conected to my server. the server does not stay on 24/7 "tryng to be a resposible person by not using energy unless needed ". Most of the items I have networked, send a message to the server pc to turn on when they are in use. Not sure if this is possible with these android pc's or not. I was thinking since this android PC spends such little juice if it would be possible to connect a hard drive to it and be able to access the content across my network, to any other type of device. It would be nice to be able to have an android pc in everyroom with a tv accessing content when needed.

other thoughts are getting a networked hard drive. Every room has a lan connection so I would not be using wifi to access the content.

xbmc is great using smb shares from a pc or server
ezfolder browser can see smb and play media

xbmc is great it shows dvd covers fan art ect go with the aeon nox skin

Kodi is available as a native application for Android, Linux, Mac OS X, iOS and Windows operating systems, running on most common processor architectures.

xbmc will also allow you to connect to a hdhomerun network tv tuner so you can have cable on all tvs
or using a normal tv tunerk and media portal as a back end

Yes, I do have setup to my network, I was hoping to use the android stick and attach my hard drive to that to play throughout the network. Example. I have an android stick in my living room with a HD connected to it. Can I have another stick in my bed room and access the files from the stick in the living room?

You could try to install a Samba server (like this one ) on the android stick that is connected to the HD and then create a share for the HD mountpoint.
This way the shared content should be accessible to all the other devices in the network that have Samba.

Samba File Shared app is no longer updated and doesn't work that great anymore
On my MX1 with disabled WIFI and using USB to LAN adapter doesn't work at all.
On my phone and Transformer tablet it takes for ever to load and sometimes you have to reboot, annoying ...
          Still haven't found replacement.

As I am not actively using this kind of setup (I have the inverse one, SMB on my NAs and client on the Mk808) i was not aware of that.
There seems to be plenty of alternatives on the market (up to Servers Ultimate ) which could be used to do this.

xbmc has a built in upnp server to stream media from xbmc i tryied it a couple months ago but it wasent fully working then xbmc has been updated alot since then you could try that theres tunes of upnp clients on android but little servers
heres some i just found havent used any of these

              https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...S5jbWMuZG1zIl0.

then youd have to install a upnp client on all other android sticks like this
              https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...ZGlhaG91c2UiXQ..

the easyiest method would be to buy a nas (or use a pc) some cost the same as android sticks and can be realy small and dont realy use much energy less then a android stick

The point of Samba File Share is when the device connects to your network it's like any other PC and you can work with it the same way from any computer.
                I have QNAP PRO NAS

Samba File Share didnt work from my phone to my mk808 so i dont think it works android to android

the only thing thats shows my phones samba share is windows 7 i cant see it in win xp or with any software

just use your nas and smb with xbmc and your be perfect make your tv kinda look like netflix but with your own media

Yes, that's what I stated above, it no longer works properly specially on JB
Naturally for streaming and large file transfers I use the NAS but that will not allow me to access Android device from PC ( not the other way around , for that ES File Explorer works fine)

SambaDroid is a native port for Android of the popular Samba for Linux. This application allows you to share/manage files on your device easily from any PC of your network. Once started, just type \\SAMBADROID in your computer, use...

samba server wont show up on my pc for somereason but it gives you the option to select what folders to share up to 3 in free app

sambadroid shows up on pc but free version only does one share and default is internal sd card in free app cant change it inless pro cant find a pro version to test

samba server may not be showing up because i tryied sambadroid first and havent restarted yet after disconnecting sambadroid try samba server first

nether one of these apps worked on my phone zte warp but that might be because sambashare is running

Yup.... about the same experience I had when tried before.
Also the Sambadroid popup asking root permission every couple seconds is annoying.
