I cant speak for the Galaxy but many android devices the USB port is programmed as a "slave" device and not as a "host" device. For instance a USB memory stick is a slave device. It can never be a host. Because most Android devices when plugged into a PC show up as a removable disk on the PC, they are acting like a slave device (like a USB memory stick).

Some tablets do support being a host device for some hardware like adding a USB keyboard or mouse. But it is very limited to what it can support as a host.

"Pzebacz im, bo nie wiedzą, co czynią"
"Forgive them as they know not what they do"

I connect my xperia st15i to my arnova 10 g2 via usb and I can now transfer music movies and apk's back and forth between the 2 Android devices
