    HiMedia is usually known for their Realtek based media players but recently they have started producing Android based players. The Realtek players are well known for their high compatibility with all kinds of video and audio formats. When making the switch over to Android, HiMedia has put a lot of effort into making sure that their Android players perform as well as their Realtek players when it comes to playback support.

      just got mine yesterday - really nice device. brushed aluminium. lots of connectivity (all you could wish for - even SATA). Live chinese TV with a remote control for who needs it (believe it's a custom app - quite impressed with the easyness it works)

            shouldnt be conneted thought usb?

            abd of the device was able to accept connections using wifi or Ethernet connection?

                  To un pack the rom for tweaking you will need to do the following.

                  1 - Download the rom. into your linux machine or linux virutal pc
                  2 - unzip it you will get all the img files from the rom.

                  3 - To un pack the system.img you will need to do the following.

                  a) in your linux pc or virtual pc download unyaffs2 - Download yaffs2 Utility
                  b) you will get a latest.tar.gz file
                  c) un pack it
                  d) enter the directory that was un packed and compile the application todo that you need only to run make command.
                  e) copy the unyaffs2 and mkyaffs2 to the directory that you have unziped the rom.
                  f) run: (go to the directory that you have the system.img and unyaffs2 files)

                  mkdir system
                  ./unyaffs2 -p4096 -s200 system.img ./system
                  g) now you have unpacked the system.img now you can start tweaking the rom.

                  if you want to repack the rom you will try the following command.
                  (rename the original system.img to systemoriginal.img to avoid deleting it)

                  ./mkyaffs2 -p4096 -s200 ./system system.img
                  This command will get all the files in ./system and will pack them into a image called system.img

                    How to upgrade from setup menu
                    2012-9-1

                    1) Download the version according to your product Q5 update.zip
                    2) put the "update.zip" into USB disk (Q2 use update_Q2.zip, Q4 use update_Q4.zip)
                    3) goto setup--system upgrade, click "SDA" or SDB
                    4) Q5 will reboot and entering the upgrade mode, there will be a ROBOT screen



                    6. Wait for the smart tv box to complete the firmware update. Please be patient as it may take around 5 minutes to complete.



                    7.Box will auto reboot after upgrade is finished

                      Recovery Mode Update:
                      1.Download the new firmware and place the firmware onto the ROOT directory of a USB drive.
                      2.Plug the USB drive into an empty USB HOST on the smart tv box.
                      3.With the smart tv box turned off,use a paper clip or tooth pick to press and hold the small pinhole restore button on the smart tv box.
                      4.While pressing the restore button,turn on the smart tv box. Continue to hold the restore button for 5 more seconds,then release it.
                      5.The restore mode will begin upgrading the firmware from the USB drive as below:




                      6. Wait for the smart tv box to complete the firmware update. Please be patient as it may take around 5 minutes to complete.



                      7. After upgrading, pls go to SETUP to check the firmware version.
