Short 8,9 pins is the right way. The 8 and 9 pin are on the hdmi side. You count pins from in the middle of the board to out side. Try it. It should work .
My UG802 stuck on the first Finless 1.7 rom screen, no boot, no animation, nothing.
Shortcutting the indicated 2 pins doesn't work for me!
I tried to shortcut them while connecting microusb: the device goes up but I see always the same finless 1.7 screen and the device is not recognized on windows.
What can I try???
Thnaks in advance.
If it boots up then you are not properly shorting the pins!
I soldered a switch to mine to make sure it works when I need it.

Bob, you are GREAT! You were right: now, using a little metal paper clip to shortcut the pins, it goes in flash mode and I'm flashing your 1.8 rom.
THANKS!
