MK808 original freezes when ethernet dongle is connected

    Hello all,
I have an original MK808 with Finless 1.6 ROM and whenever I activate my ethernet (Wi-Fi to Off and Ethernet to On in Settings), the MK808 connects, and after 2-3 minutes it freezes.

There's no such problem with WiFi as I can download torrents / load apps / view video files for hours with no freezing. The USB dongle is a cheap one I bought off **** recently and
the MK808 detects it without me doing any kind of installation. Is there some kind of driver installation / configuration I should do or is it a problematic USB ethernet model? All cables
are of good quality and the USB Hub is a Belkin with its OEM 5A power supply. The Ethernet dongle has its own USB male cord attached and that plugs in directly on the hub.

Sounds the same as mine (mine is mk809 though),

I got a cheap RD9700 based USB to Ethernet adapter and that does the same, it works and connects up but it seems to me that after so much data has passed through it freezes. I've made sure there is plenty of power etc but it always does it.

I did a search and found others posting the same for RD9700 based devices and they recommended another chipset but I can't remember what it was now!

I also found out that the adapter maxs out at 6mbps on my laptop which is pretty rubbish for a 100mbps connection!

yup, sure enough, mine says it's model KY-LANRD9700, so it must have the RD9700 chipset... A friend gave me this one http://cgi.****.com/ws/****ISAPI.dll...m=370686133054 to test, let's hope it works better

I have found a proper driver for the rd9700 but I think it's for a different kernel version (2.6.39.4), although I do have source code. I have no idea how to compile it though.

I have no idea what kernel version we are using

well, the other one didn't work, so it's back to square one. I'd order the one they mention here http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...-to-work/page2 but says listing has ended and it hasn't been relisted yet...

I had a similar issue. Everytime I connected the USB2ETH and more or less heavily used the network connection (streaming, copying, installing from playstore) the 808 freezed (1.6 and 1.7 beta).

The Adapter is working fine on the GK802.

The Adapter was connected via a USB Hub. Now I directly connected the Adapter to the USB port on the stick - and using the OTG for the HUB. Installation via Playstore worked, Streaming is working since 10 min., network throughput shows constant ~5.x MB/s (Speedtest.net).

            I have this one:

interesting... will also try that option as all my peripherals go to a Belkin USB hub that then connects to the USB port and OTG is unused. Thanks.

I ordered one of the last few of those for my mk809 and it turned up today. Quite a neat bit of kit as it has the ethernet port and it's a USB hub. It doesn't come with a power supply but has a mini USB socket where you can power it.

I've plugged it in unpowered at the moment and it seems to work fine. I'm powering the whole lot off the TV still.

I'm getting 30mbit download and 2.1mbit upload. (that's the max for my internet connection!)

                  So very happy with that.

I'm not going to use it for now though - will stick with wifi - only reason being that I've had to trail a cable through the house. I've got to move the kids bedrooms round in the summer so my office will then be on the other side of the wall so at that point I'll pass a cable through the wall.

If wifi does play up when I want to watch a film then atleast I can run a cable through.

I confirm that directly plugging the ethernet dongle on the OTG port does indeed solve my problems and ethernet works like a breeze. Is there some way to have an ethernet on/off switch on the desktop as I still need to turn it on and off right after boot in order to properly use it?
