    Best Apps, Tweaks & Utilities

Pardon me if a thread like this already exists.

I wanted to know what kind of apps & tweaks people were using on their Android TV devices in conjunction with the Finless ROM.

So far I have downloaded AdAway to remove ads and I'm trying to find an app that will keep the on screen keyboard permanently minimized.

Aside from that, I'm still adjusting to the Android OS and would love to discover other new apps and utilities to better utilize the device.

    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated

search for "Null Keyboard" in the play store and make that your default input method.

      +1 for null keyboard.

try tvlauncher, you'll like it as a launcher for your tv.

mxplayer and xbmc are essencial as well.

does anyone have an app that disconnects the mk808 after a few time without use?

you mean disconnect from WiFi? My last android device (which I no longer own) had a setting for that in the wifi options (using the tripple-dot menu in the upper right hand corner and selecting "advanced"). I am now at work and can't check on the mk808 but I would assume that setting is there as well.

mxplayer is very good (i used it a lot on my now sold Galaxy Tab), but reportedly does not allow HW decoding of streamed content. I heard BS player does that so maybe that would be a better alternative.

Other than that: you might want better browser alternatives. I myself loved android mini/mobile (I think mobile was the better one) but I can also say that chrome is very good. If all else fails, there's still Firefox . For Forums, you can use tapatalk HD, I bought it for 99c on the first day. It's a lot more expensive now, though.

To make the home menu look nice, I would recommend "Beautiful Widgets" and "simple Text", that can make for nice and clean UIs. Also, there are nice launchers like ADW Launcher Ex or Go Launcher HD.

I myself recommend staying well clear of the facebook app, installing that on my old android device gave me nothing but problems (messages never being delivered to me), plus it's horrible anyways. If you want to access facebook I recommend bookmarking http://touch.facebook.com instead

Games! You can't go wrong with games! I like Chu Chu Rocket (an old Dreamcast Classic), World of Goo, Anomaly Warzone HD, Osmos (very chill), Spacechem, Eufloria, Splice. All are very well controllable using an airmouse (seriously, these are awesome, I myself use the Measy RC11) and should also be playable using a regular mouse or touchpad. I will later on try and install a few emulators and use an xbox 360 controller to play a few games, mabye that is nice, too

Good thread. If you can maintain the first post with all the contributions organized in categories that will be awesome

File manager: I use usually ES file explorer, is the better one for me. You can give it root privileges so can work like a root explorer, includes a text editor to modify files, it can search in your network SMB share files, access to FTP servers, good look, can backup your applications, it is free and makes more that a lot of payed apps.

Launcher: Go launcher HD, Holo launcher HD, Apex launcher and Nova launcher, usually uses GO launcher HD but the rest are very good too and looks very good in 1080p.

Media players: MXPlayer and the stock one

Wifi utils: Wify analyzer, shown all the wifi networks available, the signal strength and the channel they use, so you can search for the cleanest channels to put your wifi router and get better signal.

System utils: Android terminal emulator. Here you can use it to launch linux commands in android.

Downloading tools: TTorrent. TubeMate(to download youtube video).
REMEMBER, YOUR FEEDBACK IS VERY IMPORTANT TO US.

Thanks for the responses -- I will definitely be trying out these suggestions.
I'll keep the original post maintained with these suggestions so people don't need to filter through the entire thread.
            Keep them coming!

No I mean go to standby mode. or sleep mode like the tablets do. I don't see that option on the settings since we don't have battery

I've used MXPlayer for the past 2 weeks and it supports HW decoding when playing files via ES File Manager over a LAN network.

It, however, depends on the file type. If it's MP4, etc, it'll support it. Some formats are not supported however and that is when it'll default to SW decodes. 10bit videos in particular at 720p, seems to tax the player and you get weird color artifacts on the screen.
