Can we please piece together a xbmc setup / perfect media center solution setup for Imito?

I would like to get a how-to setup or have someone else set one up on getting xbmc and stuff to play right and so on. As of right now my xbmc setup is less than perfect. actually it is horrible. xbmc on 720p with the stock xbmc videos are choppy. if i run the xaf xbmc with mx player free cable will not work at all and other shows like on ice films are very iffy.
Netflix seemed to work good but unknown if it was in hd though.

Try with ROM 1.7b and Archos Video Player like external player of XBMC.

As you probably know the main problems with XBMC are seen with smb servers. Lack of hardware acceleration is the primary issue and installing the Archos player and a modified playercorefactory.xml file has been put forth as a solution. However, that setup is not much better with 1080p files still stuttering badly. And I'm seeing other issues with XBMC and smb, so I gave up on that and have my network shares set up with Windows Media Player or TVersity accessed as UPNP within XBMC.

I see very few problems with XBMC using this setup. Nearly all of my network share files (including very high bitrate 1080p) play perfectly with MX Player set up as default in playercorefactory.xml except for FLV (primarily Youtube captures). For those FLV files Archos player is outstanding. Also, Archos is quicker at loading some avi files - I haven't quite figured out which codecs. Perhaps with these files, software decoding with MX Player would work. Haven't tried it.

Icefilms (including their 720p HD files) and Channel 1 video addons seem to play fine for me with XAF and MX Player as default. So, I don't have any other tips for you in that regard.

MX Player HW+ setting seems to work OK MOST of the time with the latest XAF builds. But HW decoding is more reliable and I can't see what advantage HW+ offers.

Although I understand the attraction of XBMC, for playing your own network shares you should try the built-in Rockchip eHomeMediaCenter. With it I get flawless 1080p streaming. Alternatively, using Explorer to access your network shares allows you to quickly chose different media players with some surprising improvments in playback. It would be nice if all this could be configured easily under XBMC, but at this point it's not there yet. I'm a total amateur at this, but perhaps if I had more time I could figure out how to customize XBMC so it would have flawless playback. I'll keep fiddling.

Ok the xaf builds with any external player even play using does not launch the external player at all. As for my files on my file share they are mkv, vob, of mpg. I know at least one movie is 1080p but the rest are 720 or normal dvd.

I have noticed on free cable in order for the streams to play right i have to use dvdplayer from xbmc and turn bitrate down to 1000k then the audio and video play normal but i know on the finless 1.7b one the audio and video are off by 2 seconds or more. my other mx2 is running stock firmware.

Icefilms most streams are not working for me so idk if it is just a lack of bandwidth on their side or if i have a issue going on.

as for comparing xaf and normal xbmc right now I am having better luck with normal xbmc on my stock firmware mx2. the xaf with external players I have never gotten the external player to work. so I am unsure what I am doing wrong. BTW on the xaf build how do i change the default player?

You change default players by editing a file called playercorefactory.xml. You need a rooted ROM to access this file. There is a lot of discussion of editing this file over at xbmcandroid forums.

You may want to try somehting that worked for me, eliminating all the non-working external player woes. It is a wrapper that allows you to select which player you want each time you launch a file. A bit inconvenient, of course, but it works.

It's called smb wrapper. Install it, then open it. It replaces your playercorefactory file with a modified one. The only thing I'm not sure about if if that is reversed on uninstall. However, you could always uninstall/reinstall XBMC. Anyway, here it is.

since i can't figure how to edit the thread, i will post here for now.

            This is on finless 1.7b
I am using the march 3rd XAF xbmc build with external player for set top box.
For free cable plug in I turned down the bit rate to 1600 to stop the jittery video.
For now I don't know how to config free cable to default to alway using dvdplayer so i have to hit c then play with and goto dvd player.
For icefiles and so on I use mxplayer free. (i did pay for pro just don't use it)
Oh when you are playing video in free cable I had to offset audio to around .375 seconds a head.

Any other suggestions would be awesome.

Also how do i edit my first post so i can put that in?

              plex

if anyone is using plex, how do you get rid of the top and bottom bar when watching a movie. I have a rc11 keyboard/gyromouse thing. i asked in plex channel and they just asked if i have a mouse pointer. i told them it disappears after 30 seconds but the bars stay.

              Thank you

I use Plex for Plexpass (it's a beta version of the next Plex major update, code-named Kepler) and I can tell you that it works great: no bars, great new player, you can start videos and control it from everything: iPhone, iPad, Android, web... They added also (finally) a better subtitles support, finally they work on mobile too!

It's a bit pricy by the way. To use it you need to subscribe to Plexpass and I believe it is 30$ but I don't remember.

If you use the regular Plex app, first of all try to reboot your Android box. If it doesn't solve the situation try to hide the status bar by pressing F11 (volume down) on your RC11 before opening Plex. Maybe it works also during playback.

                Best

The temporary solution is to go into your Android settings and under Display uncheck "autohide menu bar" and "force showing the menu button". Worked for me.

Not really a temporary solution, more a permanent one. The gyro mouse makes the OSD display stay on with autohide menu bar forced.

I second Plex as I have never had a problem, looks great and plays great, once I figured out the display bar.

You guys should probably be following this thread too

                      Bob
"Pzebacz im, bo nie wiedzą, co czynią"
"Прости им, они не ведают, что творят"
"Perdona loro perché non sanno quello che fanno"
"Vergib ihnen, denn sie wissen nicht, was sie tun"
"Vergeef hen want ze weten niet wat ze doen"
"Pardonne-leur car ils ne savent pas ce qu'ils font"
"Perdónalos porque no saben que lo que hacen"
"Oprosti im, jer ne znaju što čine"
"Forgive them as they know not what they do"
