Polaroid P700 Finless ROM version 1.4 now available!

OK folks... rolling my new 1.4 ROMs out for all the tabs I know how to crack. You guys were next.

Anyway here is the link to my new 1.4 ROM. I think you will find it a big improvement over 1.3 and a lot faster!

    http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...ss-Version-1-4

Also for the P7200 guys. Can I get an answer as if a version is needed based on the 7200 stock ROM please? Some say the P700 works fine on the 7200 and some say no. So let me know and I will cook a 1.4 for the 7200 if it is really needed. I don't want to waste my time if it is really not needed.

I don't want to waste your time though I am not opposed to the idea. I still haven't had a lot of time to knock out a new kernel yet to get loop device working. Still building the development machine in virtual box not to sure which distro I need for developing the correct tool chain. 19 month old is not exactly helping either. I would be happy to roll back my device to the firmware and try to provide what you might need. for cooking the ROM. Gotta cut my teeth sooner or later on android Java OS. Currently running the pmid 700 with a few apk's loaded on the ptab 7200.

On the loop device front so far we are just missing /proc/config.gz. which means I need to enable config_ikconfig_proc when I compile a new kernel for this. I was going to see if I could yank it out of the update.img but afptool for some reason wasn't working for me. Not sure I had the right one. Something about one of them not actually working. Though it may take me some time to get to that point without having a good development environment setup. . What distro would you suggest ubuntu 9.04 or 10.04 or should I go with Debian like cyanogen is suggesting. I have backtrack 5 ubuntu 10.04 I deleted the 9.04 just cause it is to dilapidated to install unless I just download the deb's and dpkg them. Probably should post this part somewhere else though. I guess ping me if you go forward on this or any suggestions per above comments and questions.

        Sweet!

Thanks Bob, I been looking for a way to root this tablet since I got it the day after Thanksgiving. Now not only is it rooted, but IMO it runs much smoother and all arround faster! Keep up the great work man! It is appreciated.

          unstable

It works but it is a bit unstable to be honest. I have had this rom freeze up on me wile using different applications. I do request one that will work for the ptab 7200 hardware. I was in dolphin yesterday and the tab froze two different times had to pin hole it.

My bet is this problem exists in the stock ROM too. Remember all my ROM did was give root access and convert from cramfs to ext3. No kernel changes or anything like that. So stability is going to be inherent in the stock ROM or not. Now with that said remember now being able to write to /system means you can hose up your tablet and make it unstable. An app can now write in there which it could not before. So a stupid app can make stupid things happen. Remember root is a double edge sword!

One thing to be aware of. If you installed something that jacked up /system in some way, doing a factory reset will NOT FIX IT! Why? Because the code for a factory reset never expected to have to format and erase /system because it was never suppose to be R/W!!!! So if your system gets unstable don't think you can just do a factory reset that will not replace /system. You have to do a eraseIDB and reflash!!! Again root can be a double edged sword so undertsand the ramifications.

FYI Dolhpin HD for me was unstable anyway which is why I went to the regular Dolpin (non HD). Even then I could get on a page and hang. Now I am using Opera which I like better.

Anyway I will do you up a 7200 ROM. Give me a day or so.

I think the most i have really done to system so far was installing busy box 1.19. Other than that i saw some stuff at addictive tips on making my own splashes and boot animation though with the freak tab logo on boot those dont seem to work.

I was not blaiming anyone i just figured maybe it was a hardware firmware issue since the tabs are marked differently. If it were a true linux enviroment the kernel is the deciding factor and these 2 or 3 tabs may all be using the same kernel.

All the same i do appreciate both you and chidaves efforts very much and give you mad props for getting us all this rooted rom!

Not saying you were blaming anyone

Oh and some user on another RK29 tablet I rooted reported issues with lockups and force close when they updated busybox! I don't recall where that was posted here at freaktab right now. Not sure what version of busybox he used but just 2 days ago the guy reported problems and I told him the same deal about root and what can happen if your not careful. Sure enough he found his problem was the busybox update.

yes the Kernel is the key but also some apps that are "system apps" need to be compatible with the kernel. For instance framework can really hose you up if they are not compatible. Also SystemUI.apk, settings.apk, system.apk, etc also play an important roll with compatiblity with kernels.

I had to use the reset button one time when it locked up on boot, other than that it's working nicely. Anyone tried to plug a usb webcam into the usb host adapter?

                      The Polaroid PTab 7200

Your P700 custom works great on the PTab 7200, but I was just wondering if you could look into a specific custom just for the 7200 just in case there could be a few minor differences that a lot of people do overlook without hardcore using the tablet? that would be amazing, and thank you for working so hard to crack this guy, ive been reading on your stuff, and you are a tech guru!! I wish I could learn as much as you know

I did a 7200 ROM. Look at the post just below this one.

                          Contacts.apk?

I know that there's really no point on having the Contacts App on here, but is there any way it could be installed with the new version?

                          Thanks,

That's the only major "missing" item from Bob's ROM. If you download GO Contacts, however, you will get all of your contacts just like you see in Contacts.apk. That's what I have been using to see mine.

I agree GO Contacts is a great app, but considering that a lot of the underlying system files for the Contacts.apk are on the tablet, I wonder how hard it is to actually put the Contacts APK on the tablet...
