    Finless 1.7 vs Stock Firmware

So, what does it do? Whats gained by this? What are your favourite improvements?

The main advantage for me is that it roots the device, therefore enabling the installation of apps that need root access.

Rooted device, hide system bar implementation, power off implemented too, a lot of tweaks on it. I think is definitely better for my use.

Are there any changes regarding video quality? Im looking for solutions to be able to stream 1080p!

If you use 1.7a rom you can have true 1080p o/p rather than upscaled. With regards to streaming the ROM doesn't improve the wifi although I beleive it contains updated drivers and also has the updated libstagefright.so for hardware decoding in XBMC. The readme for the ROM has all the information on the tweaks etc.

Is the hardware really able to handle 1080p content when streaming from NAS or Netflix?

For me the primary issue was finding the right media player. MXplayer works quite well for most 1080p rips. Some file formats might work better on other players like Wondershare. There are some nice, developing media hubs, particularly XBMC and PLEX, that I have used. PPLEX uses an internal mediaplayer that works quite well. XBMC requries some fiddling with enternal players. Another variable is the way you configure your network. NAS sometimes hiccups with the media hubs unless you mount it as a local drive (don't ask me how to do it). After that my main issue was getting a strong wireless network signal from my distant router (ended up with a powerline network extender - works great!). Anyway, the MX1 and MX2 hardware is capable of smoothly decoding 1080p in most common formats.

Seems you have a lot of "media" and expertise in the use of these things!
I may make ROMs but am in no WAY a power users!

Thank you, Bob. I am getting quickly very familiar with streaming media, at least from a practical, working perspective. I did work in the computer industry tinkering with graphics hardware, but I have little knowledge of streaming media other than what I have learned over the last few weeks since I got my MX2. I'd be happy to summarize what works for me. I'm very satisfied with with how my network and Internet streaming is working now.
