can't get Rom Flash Tool to say "Found RKAndroid Mass storage USB" on MX2

    Hi All,

Currently running Finless 1.5 that I flashed using the SDcard flash method (put the image on the SD card and boot).

Trying to flash to either 1.7a or 1.7b and the ROM Flash Tool will not display "found RKAndroid", no matter what I try. It stays on "No found RKAndroid"

    USB debugging is off
    Mass Storage is selected
    USB is turned on

When I initially connect my MX2 to a Windows computer, Windows recognizes it and attempts to install drivers but fails.

I've tried connecting the MX2 to my computers with different cables and every conceivable combination of the micro USB ports on the MX2 e.g.

    -just the micro USB
    -just the DC-5V
-the micro USB & the DC-5V

Is there anything else I can try?

    Thanks in advance!

You are using the port on the side of the unit not the back port correct?

    >When I initially connect my MX2 to a Windows computer, Windows recognizes it and attempts to install drivers but fails.

What it should do when you first connect it and turn on USB as Mass Storage, you open my computer icon you should see the internal sdcard mounted as a removable drive and windows should be able to access it. e.g. you can open it and see files in it.

    Do you get that far?

Just went through this issue on my mk809ii, it may be a different procedure, but my issue was the driver was not installing correctly. The key to getting mine installed was the reset button.

      What I did was:
      1) connect the unit to the TV HDMI.
      2) while holding the reset button, connect the micro USB connection to your computer.
      3) hold the reset for 2 seconds, then release.

In my case the computer then recognized it and I was able to install the correct driver.
If the device is recognized in Device Manager, not Unknown, then you should be good to go.

From there, just follow the instructions by Bob.
If at the bottom of the tool you see "No found RKAndroid rock usb".
We need to make changes in settings to turn on USB storage
Go into Imito settings and click on developer options. Make sure USB debugging is OFF.
Go into storage settings. At the top right are 3 dots. Click it and select MASS Storage box.
Go into USB menu and turn on USB. Note: on first boot this check box is out of sync so you may have to click it twice.
I also had to follow the following steps because I kept getting a "Flash Mode Fail" error.
      5) Once it says "Found RKAndroid Mass Storage Usb" in the flash tool click the "Reboot to Flash Mode" button.
      6) Wait up to at least 10 seconds. The unit should reboot and the screen for the MX1 will be black (no ouptut).
      7) If the unit does not reboot to a blank screen and into flash mode it maybe stuck.
In my ROM kit is another folder called alternate_reboot_to_flash_tool
This is the RKBatch tool. Run this tool and the 1 box should be pink.
Click the "switch" button at the bottom and this should put it into flash mode.
      Close this RKBtach tool now.
Now running 1.7a with the 720 kernel, looks and runs pretty good.

Yes I'm using the port on the side to connect to my Windows computers.

Nope, Windows doesn't see it as a mass storage device. In Settings > Storage > USB computer connection I'm not able to untick the Mass Storage box (so it's always on). In Settings > USB I can tick and untick "Connect to PC", USB debugging is disabled.

Holding the reset button for 2 seconds while I connect the USB to my Windows computer just puts the MX2 into recovery (red triangle with exclamation point), it doesn't advance from there without me pulling the USB to power it down.

            Pls try this:
            1. Disconnect all from the stick.
            2. Connect usb to computer.
            3. Push the reset button in the stick, with all disconnected.
            4. While reset button is pressed connect usb to the stick, and maintain pushed reset untill Windows sounds new driver found. If 10 seconds after Windows Don't detects it look at device manager and search for rk3066 device or triangle of unknown device. Update the driver in both cases for the drivers included in Bob Finless zip.
Then try rk flash tool from Finless zip.
REMEMBER, YOUR FEEDBACK IS VERY IMPORTANT TO US.

Tried this, after ~30 seconds of no changes in device manager (or Windows seeing the stick) I reconnected the HDMI and the stick was on the red triangle/exclamation point recovery screen.

All I can say is this.

The MX1/2 has very weak USB ports. You could have broken data traces on the board where the USB port is soldered. Your PC is not seeing it at all so either your cable is bad, or you have a jacked up USB port.

Now another thing. I just helped a guy with a PC that had ONLY USB 3.0 ports. I had him do this:
You might try this. I think this will force USB to comply with 1.1

In my ROM kit is a file called settings.ini
open it with a text editor and change this:

                SUPPORTUSB11=0

Turn it on by changing the 0 to a 1 and then save the file.
Close and open the flasdh tool again.

                See if it then works.

So I tried another USB cable (the 1 that came with the MX2, I had been using it for power only, I had tried 3 of my other working USB cables) and that allowed Windows to see the the drives.

However the ROM Flash Tool still wouldn't display "Found RKAndroid", until that changes that config.ini to allow USB 1.1, now the ROM Flash Tool displays "Found RKAndroid Mass Storage Usb", but when I click reboot to flash, I get

"Device can not do Flash Mode, because of no drive."

Tried searching the forums for this message, but I don't find any specific threads (search doesn't like when you try to match the phrase exactly)

Use the alternate reboot to flash mode tool I provide. It's the RKBatch tool and works almost all the time.

unable to flash mk808 because of no usb storage mode

                        Hello !

My mk808 is slow, playstore do not find many many apps, not rooted for remote control app with smartphone (?), but most important : wifi works only sometimes or seems to connect...but no... with good signal detected altough.

So, i've spent several hours reading this forum and Finless howto doc to flash my stock rom mk808 from gb (12/2013) android 4.2.2 for finless 2.1c custom.
But I failed ! =D -> Found RKAndroid Loader Rock Usb. ( and not usb mass storage )
It is not an msc device says the rom flash tool.

Reset long press + plug ok, device detected, but... not as usb storage... rather like mtp.
I used provided drivers (finless archive). Debug mode unchecked, connect to pc checked.
Tried to reboot computer 2 times...

" make sure that a) USB storage is turned ON"

but where else ? into android settings, i found no usb storage management but only connect to pc option and developper options suc as debug mode.

Please help me ! Im getting crazy =S

You have to turn usb debugging on in settings.
Connect to pc should not be checked.
Start Finless Flash Tool on PC and select the correct firmware.
Push paperclip down in reset hole above blue light, usb cable has to be connected to the OTG port not the mini usb port. While holding down the reset button, plug the other end of the usb cable into a usb port of your pc. The flash tool will detect your device. Click erase IDB, then flash the rom.

So finally, i should test with usb debugginh ON ?
And NO connect to pc ? (i followed finless readme file which says debugging off , mass storage on, and connect to pc active)
I used of course otg usb port.
I'll try one last time (already tried about 10 times different ways).

It's ok !! Finless flash success !! with usb debugging on, altough in read me it should be off...
so, it's ok, and wifi is more stable i'll trdt to drr if data rate is good enough, otherwise, i'll try to make the antenna better.

Very good work Finless ! Thanks ! You rocks the MK808 'scene' !

However, i always have wifi drops
What is strange is i can't manage to connect playstore to internet, but i can access to website via browser.

Is it also possible to connect a smartphone (in modem mode) on usb otg port of mk808 to share connection by activating ethernet ?
