OK guys, I am workng on something right now that should ROCK.

How would you like a settings that actually shows everything it should? Not the crappy one Arnova implemented?

Interested in testing? I need folks that know how to remove files from system/app and put files back in and set permissions.

The APK and providers I have hacked with should work on all RK29 devices! However I can only test on the Arnova as thats all I have. But you are free to try it on your Nextbook. Be prepared to reflash if it bootloops you!

Still looking for more testers..... I need this thing rung out before I even put it in a ROM.

Turbo, read my post a little closer please. I am not cooking this into a ROM just yet. I need testers first! So this means I will provide a APK that you do not install but actually using a root file manager replace the one that comes in the ROM.

Well turns out I am not ready yet until I solve this problem. Manage apps causes a force close

So I have more work to do BUT! Eveything else works... Accounts and sync settings, SIM card support, etc etc etc... If I could only fix the manage apps.

BUT you guys want to test now? Feel free to see whats coming! Again manage apps when you click on an app force closes.

So here is what you do:
1) Download this settings .zip file below. Extract the Settings.apk. NOTE: Windows may rename the Settings.apk to Settings.zip. Just rename it to Settings.apk (Capital S in Settings.apk thats important!)
2) Now put this on your SDCard to be ready to copy it over. NO! You do not click on it to install! That will NOT work!
3) You need a file manager that has root access.
4) Using the file manager go in and delete from /system/app Settings.apk and Settings.odex
5) Before leaving the file manager go to your SDcard and copy Settings.apk Now copy it into /system/app/
6) REBOOT using the reset button!
7) Now on new boot up, check out what is in settings

Why the HELL manufacturers of RK29 tablets took all this stuff out of settings.apk, I will never know... Bunch of BS if you ask me. But check out what works! I think tethering may actually work now?

Anyway here is the Settings.apk (zipped) I have been working on!

Hi Bob. I it works on Fenice57 rom, but I had to delete "Settings.odex" in order to make it work. If not it will crash.


Bugs:
- In sound settings, as soon as you hit volume it crashes.
- Portable Wi-fi hotspot doesnt work. It disables wifi and It gives an "error" message
- Airplane Mode disables all connections but check mark doesnt stays.
- Display / Brightness crashes as soon as you select it. "(process com.android.settings) has stooped unnespectedly"
- Power Widget works but color is brown. It should be black.

OK I knew most of that but can I ask you to go to Manage Applications and click on a USER Installed app and see if that force closes on you as well? It does on my 10 G2.

FYI to recover from this, just flash system.img. You do not need to eraseIDB and all your apps should still be installed.

I made some tests with the original settings app, this night will test your settings.apk, if you want information of settings.apk you can use supermanager.apk, with the file manager go to system/app click on settings.apk now you can press on activity button, will be shown all the services that can be used, you can start a service by clicking on the gear or you can put a shortcut on your home screen pressing the paper with the star, for running this service, like anycut. If you test to run ".applications.ManageApplications" or ".ManageApplications" you get force close. If you run ".ChooseLockGeneric" you get settings for lock the screen.
I hope you find it useful, to me it seemed interesting.
