    MK808B bricked

    Hey there,

At first I opened my device: original MK808B!

So I tried to flash the Finless 1.7 firmware. Erasing NAND worked fine - but flashing always crashed at different stages.
After that I got the Android with the red "!". Of course I had to manually start the flash mode - it still worked at that point.

I tried another PC - also no luck - same thing.

Then I tried to upgrade to the official Android 4.2.2 release - same thing in flash process.

At the third time it froze during erasing the NAND -> BRICKED!

Doesnt power on at all - no LED; no USB - completely dead!

Really sad about that - i root and flash my android smartphones for years now and never had any problems -.-

I will try to get my device replaced...

Just want to warn you that this CAN happen!

These are pretty hard to perma brick!

You should always be able to use the reset button to get into flash mode.
If your hard bricked this will put you in MASK ROM mode:

I have yet to perma brick any of my 3 MK808, MK808B, MK808B clone and I have flashed bad ROMs hundreds of times.

If you cant get it replaced and want to send it to me, PM me.

      thanks for your reply!

The needle method between pins 8&9 works. But still no Luck with your tool. On "Erase NAND" it says: "ERROR: Download boot failed"...

Edit: Just read the whole thread - apparently there is no solution to this kind of problem. I think its done!

Thanks for the help anyway Finless - great forum!

          Pretty interesting turn of events...

          Got it working again!

It was a damn hassle and i really cannot narrow down what could be the solution.

But anyway - what I did was:
I used 2 PCs, my desktop PC and my notebook. At first i used my desktop PC, failed while flashing, then while erasing - finally bricked there!
So I switched to my notebook, same thing. Then Finless posted the thread with shorting pins 8&9. That worked - got in mask mode! But as i said i was stuck at "Download boot fail" (NAND erasing or flashing). Had to do it over and over again - nothing!
Then i updated drivers, changed cables, changed ports, switched to RKFlashTool 1.6 etc - but nothing worked.

Then i switched back to my PC, never had the device in mask mode there. And then suddenly erasing worked! But of cource - flashing DID NOT - crashed while flashing system at various stages! Did it over and over again, did the same with drivers etc... nothing helped.

Then i switched back to my notebook - this time i could boot into flash mode again with the reboot button!

I changed nothing there, but now i flashed 2 times without problems!

          So:
PC couldnt erase/flash - but could flash something in Mask Mode to get the flash mode working again!
Notebook couldnt flash anything in Mask Mode - but now works in Flash Mode.

I dont know if this helps anyone - but i hope so! I just means - there is a life after "Download boot fail" etc.

First off let me start off by saying i really appreciate all your hard work and keeping us in the loop.

So, i've managed to brick my MK808KB when i went to upgrade to the 4.2.2. The typical issue of no blue light etc.

Using your latest tool and instructions, i get the device into maskrom mode but i keep getting the "Erasing IDB failed" error. I've tried 3 brand new usb cables, 3 computers but no luck. Is there anything you can think of that i might have over looked?

Anybody have a way to fix this? In maskrom mode Finless ROM Flash Tool gives "ERROR: download boot failed" When trying to erase NAND (IDB).
