I think you mean 1 gb of RAM, not 1 mb

What can I say? I'm cheap.

Oops, actually GB (lower case b=bit, B=byte)

Your value is appreciated. Positive karma, more slack for us.

Maybe there is some way to update roms with a recovery image from the sd card for those who lose the usb function?

I'll look into that after I fix (for the umpteenth time) init.d support, which I thought was working and hasn't this entire time (surprised no one noticed)......

Thanks for the warning on the D2, and the advice on what to look for in new tabs. For now, I'm definitely sticking with these. It seems like my husband fixed the charging thing temporarily. We'll no longer allow the kids to play with them while they're plugged in (that's how they ALWAYS played with them, which is probably why they broke) and I'll just let them play for an hour and them put them on charge. They shouldn't be on them longer than that anyway, we just get lazy sometimes. haha I think as long as I don't let them stress the usb jacks anymore, we might be okay.

If the jacks aren't in too bad a shape, you might superglue or epoxy them to the board for better strain relief. Necessity is a mother.

I thought mine was hermetically sealed also. Didn't think it would ever come apart without breaking. Then, snap, came right apart. Snaps right back together...looking hermetically sealed again...but still snaps apart. You just need something really thin to slid in there. Try starting with something like a razor blade and then sticking a small flat screwdriver in there (the razor blade will probably brake if you tried to use it to pry the cover apart.

Thank you for the advice from personal experience. Right now, they are working fine again. We found that certain mini usb chargers sit too loose in the jack to get a good connection, also. We found two in our supply that fit tightly, and we're hoping that by not letting the kids use them while plugged in, they won't become any more damaged. However, if I start to have problems with them again, I'll definitely take your advice on opening them up and repairing the jack.

This forum, and the info I've found in it, has been a huge help. I love the custom ROM and the 'trick' to make it think the external card is the internal one, thereby giving you practically limitless storage, is genius. For some reason, I couldn't get that to work when on the GB ROM, so I flashed back to ICS. My kids are thrilled with it (and the ability to access the Play Store as well as Amazon)! Thanks to everyone who has worked so hard to update this!
