Will it be possible to upgrade from 1.7 to 1.8 without loosing all apps, data and configuration?

I understand that when upgrading from the stock ROM everything is lost (for starters, you increase the internal memory partition, which means formatting it), but are you planning an upgrade version from 1.7 to 1.8 that will keep all apps?

When Bob will release the new rom, i will do cwm zips from the devices he release the rom, so you can install them without lose data if you come from 1.7, Only if not big changes are made in the rom structure, if there are big changes is better to wipe for ensure stability. We will see it soon

Yes great news! Will save a few annoying klicks and might stop the Whatsapp (auto timezone) error message on startup.

Any chance you could fix this in other roms as well, like the fx5/cx803 stick? Had been checking the tv sticks delopments since they first came out, but they had problems overheating and bad wifi. So waited for about 11 months when finally 3rd(?) generation came out, and I bought my fx5 with external antenna on taobao, a Chinese e-commerce site. Paid RMB 399.

Well wifi signal was ok, but connections dropped and wifi had to be restarted every 3-15 minutes. My better half classified it as Chinese junk, sneering for each time the connection dropped when watching a movie (her language), streaming video (my vocabulary).

Buying a USB-ethernet adapter (RMB 33) did not solve the problem as it only worked when wifi out and I manually inserted the adapter in the USB port. No ethernet settings in the stock rom.

After Bob gracefully produced his ROM 1.7 for this stick, I flashed it and even got ethernet settings in the setup. Now I figured out that when I switched the ethernet off and on again, it would connect to ethernet without having to plug/unplug operation. Streaming problems are gone (have some more self confidence as vicious remarks about my purchases have gotten less - Thanks Bob)

I now have the settings menu startup automatically during boot and switch ethernet off and on, and have stable connection.

Did wonder if perhaps with a small startup script (turning ethernet on and off) during boot this could be solved, but this is beyond my capabilities.

Now I find Finless 1.8 has ethernet on at boot fixed... Hurray, hurray, hurray! Oops wrong hardware :-(.

Thank you for your magnificent roms! I wil be patient and wait for the FX5/CX803 1.8 version.

Connections dropped and wifi had to be restarted every 3-15 minutes seem caused by the hide system bar setting. You can try setting not auto hide the system bar to see if reduce the chance of wifi dropped problem.

Thanks Latali, tried everything, including your suggestion, downloaded special apps to keep wifi from getting stuck (no traffic coming in, or plain rescanning for other networks). At the moment the ethernet is by far better workable option for stable network connectivity. If it only would be on at boot... (actually i shows as on in settings, but will actually only start after switching it off and on).

This is why I am a bit excited about this fix...

there are two issues on mk808b 1.7 and 2.0 beta with 1080P kernel


1.rotation issue with my Google Play Music, some time it doesn't rotate to the landscape mode.
It looks like portrait mode that stretch to landscape view...it looks weird and the setting option is missing,the widget doesn't work either.


Sometimes it works perfectly, and sometimes it doesnt.


2.my webcamera (logitech C310) sometimes works perfectly in skype (both mic & camera)and camera app,but when i switch to use other app for a while then go back to skype or camera app,it doesnt work anymore. skype shows "Call failed",and camera app has no response(sometimes has no response in camera mode but works in video mode).


i plug it into hub which has power supply,and the hub plug into mk808b's usb host.other devices(sound card,keyboard,etc.. )all work normally.

Great job! Looking forward to this release. Now if I can just figure out a way to get any of my connections to stay up without stopping/resetting after a few minutes (Wifi/USB ethernet everything). It's pretty much useless as a media streamer right now for me. I don't have auto-hide status bar turned on either.

I'm going to try a better power supply to see if it could be that.. either that's it or I have a dud as I've tried several different roms with the same issue.

Replacing the power supply solved my network/ethernet issues for anyone that is curious. I replaced the cheapo LA-520 that came with my device with a 5v 2.5a adapter that I found in my parts collection and just spliced the 5v+ and grnd into the mini-usb connector. The original said 5v 2a, but I had a feeling something was wrong.

Can't wait for Ethernet on at boot!

Yes I know some of the devices have factory hardware problems, but believe us that only some of them have hardware problems, the most are power supply problems, if you use a good power supply most of the problems with stability, wifi, etc only disapears. When I bought my first device i was really disappointing about it, cause had a lot of random freezes, reboots, nand corruptions, wifi problems, etc... same device with a good power supply is working stable like a rock.

Could you update us with an ETA on the fixed rom? or if possible, tell us how you have managed to fix the problem, maybe posting whatever scripts/files needed to do a manual fix.

I expect you're a very busy man with everything going on, and I for one appreciate the work you have done, simply putting, without your contribution I wouldn't own an mk808b.
