Confused about which ROM to try

I have some version of 1.6 currently on an MK808.
It's basically stable, etc. - no major complaints.
I use it with a 42" tv. Is there much benefit to update to the 1080p kernel?
I am not sure if I would notice much benefit since I mostly use it for downloaded video and netflix.
Furthermore, given that I want a stable system, would 1.7c or 2.0 be more advisable? (or 1.6).
I like the idea of apps going full screen automatically because currently I use a special app for that.

I was using 1080p for a long time, and actually I change to 720p, and only see benefits on it, I feel fonts less clear now in browsers and text editor, but is a lot of faster now. I suggest to try both, and then decide.

Yes, no problems to do that, you can swich only kernel from rk flash tool or from cwm recovery.
