I can tell you he does not remember what he did to get the Bronze Star medal. He was blown up and had shell shock. For a few years after WWII, he did not know who he was. They used electro-shock therapy on him to try and erase the shell shock from his memory. It worked about 2 years later. He then remembered who he was but could not remember much about his actions in WWII. He had 2 Purple Hearts but lost them during that 2 year period as he did not know what they were for.Originally posted by Abducted View Post

By the way, my Uncle - Lewis White (not Louis as the paper said) was killed on the beaches of Normandy. My middle name is his. He is buried in Salerno Italy at a military cemetery.
