R28 Meta network issue

Have had an S89 Vega for about a year, and quite happy with it. Bought another for a friend and it arrived DOA. Fought to return it, returned it, and never heard a word. No new unit, no refund, nothing. Oh well, I moved on. Fast forward...

Read good stuff about the R28, about the new Rock-chip and made a call. Ordered two a little over a month ago, one for us, one for a friend. Prepped them the same, stock 111k4 ROM, TVMC and Kodi 14.2, etc. Mine worked great for 2-3 weeks, and I mean great. Fast, powerful, everything that I wanted. Then about a week ago, everything started stuttering, lagging, freezing. Often we couldn't get a source list to come up. Unit always shows excellent signal via to our N router about15-feet away, but testing with the MC apps and Speed Test, etc., showed that regardless as to signal strength, the connectivity starts out great following a reboot or start-up, but after a minute or less, grinds to a crawl. I'm talking about a dial-up crawl. Completely useless.

I've swapped it back and forth with the S89 (running the latest Finless ROM, identical apps) in the exact same location, same connections, etc., and the problem is the R28. The S89 performs as usual...awesome, just painfully slow in comparison (loading apps, etc.). The R28 appears to run and operate normally in every other way, but something is wrong somewhere that is affecting network throughput. Can't stream, , can't update Android apps, can't browse the web, all with excellent signal strength.

Was talking with my friend today at work when he mentioned that he was wondering if there was something wrong with his R28, and proceeds to describe the same symptoms that we're experiencing. If anyone has any information or suggestions that may help, I am all ears and would greatly appreciate hearing it.

I was under the impression that 111k4 was current. At least that's the latest they have on their website.

I looked at the wasser in a thread last night, but the most recent that I saw (don't recall the version) was based on an older firmware, from like last November'

Did I misunderstand the dating? Is the 206b or (thought I saw) 207 based on the current ROM?

Well, I flashed it. I don't yet know if it will run smoother or not, but my first observation is that the remote no longer works. Is there a fix for this?

When you say 'lots of features that the stock ROM doesn't have', are you referring to the under-pinnings, tweaks and tuning-wise? It's quite stripped down, which I like. Just want to understand.

Edit: installed TVMC, and it's doing the same thing. Still show excellent signal, connected at 150MB, but all network apps losing connectivity. Verified using Speed test.
