You have to unzip completely, make the changes and then tar the folder again from Android not a PC.
You can't just edit files and repack the tar otherwise it won't restore correctly.

Anyone wanting remote update ability just pm me. I have a method that keeps nothing on the stick and remotely updates from internet. All the user does is run an app. I can change/ update any aspect of rom through the update. Kernels boot.img kodi updates boot logos install apk's. I havent found the need yet but could probably do a full remote update. Been keeping my customers happy for nearly a year now. I was hosting on aa free drop box account but got scared and moved to a private server to host the files. Anyway if you are interested pm mePrahjister ****MK808(nonB)****MK808B V5****MK808B Plus****UBOX R89**** CX919****MK808B Pro****Nexbox N9****Eny Em95****Matricon Q2****Tanix TX5 Pro****

What apps do I use to unzip, make the changes and re-tar?
Is there anywhere I can learn how to make my own tar? I did read the previous comment that describes it but I need more info or visuals. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. You guys have amazing brains! LOL

Just take your .kodi directory and copy it. You can zip in es file explorer if you want a single file. Make sure you have show hidden files in es file explorer checked. You can download any changes on a PC with this method. Again I have this completed automated with an android app that pulls the img from my server. Pm if interested. I can demo with teamvewer.Prahjister ****MK808(nonB)****MK808B V5****MK808B Plus****UBOX R89**** CX919****MK808B Pro****Nexbox N9****Eny Em95****Matricon Q2****Tanix TX5 Pro****

The easiest way is to copy and paste the entire kodi folder to sdcard, then copy to new box/device?
Or copy with helium?
Personally, I just do a twrp backup then restore if its one box to another, takes 5 mins and is identical copy, including all my apps like ogyoutube, shoebox, moddedspotify and kodi initd script.

Easy with zip. Busybox has unzip with it. Add some lines to your to installapk.sh to only on first boot unpack the zip file. Look up if else and touch command. Then create a fix script the user can run through terminal emulator in case there's an issue that will delete the touched file.Prahjister ****MK808(nonB)****MK808B V5****MK808B Plus****UBOX R89**** CX919****MK808B Pro****Nexbox N9****Eny Em95****Matricon Q2****Tanix TX5 Pro****
